MI MI - Ingram Davis, 34, Lyft driver, sent strange texts, Detroit, 11 Jun 2020

  • #21
Ingram had a white Hyundai Elantra, not a Dodge Journey, and there is no reason for him to use code - if someone was watching him text, giving away Dodge Journey (if he was kidnapped in one, for example) would be a problem, and if he was texting in secret, why the need for code? It would only be useful for the person on the other end, or as a cover from LE (ie texting in code to buy drugs or do other illegal activity). The texts are ultra weird and creepy and I don't think they have anything to do with bipolar but intended to be just that - weird and creepy. It sounds like he was lured, robbed, killed and someone was being a smartass before selling his phone to Steve, who in turn probably didn't ghost Ingram's mom but got rid of the phone or changed the number ASAP because no one wants to be using a phone/sim from someone who's family has filed a MP report. I am curious if the texts were SMS or Facebook or something else? (social media can be logged in from anywhere, not necessarily coming from the phone) I feel for his family having to do this without a lot of LE support. I hope they can get a PI to help them. Bodies have a way of disappearing inside buildings or barrels in Detroit and for LE to say they need a body before they'll help is laughable because it's not like they're looking for one.

apparently introduced in 2009, so 11 years of vehicles, scroll for production numbers:

Have they tried pinging the phone to get data of the location as to where the texts were sent? Haven’t seen it said anywhere but that would be a good idea for LE to do

I don’t like this! And I don’t like how little attention it is getting. That bible verse is so...weird

The same text was being sent over and over to his family. I took the "understood " comment to mean his cousin understood that it was NOT Ingram texting.

or that maybe he couldn’t speak freely.

Curious about the books ID is holding.
Also, was Ingram known to be political, perhaps engaged or interested in recent event demonstrations? imo, speculation.

1 Samuel 18:2
''And Saul took him that day

Not only into his favour, and into his service, but into his court; even on that very day he slew the Philistine, or however as soon as it could be done:

and would let him go no more home to his father's house;
as he used to do before; when he only served as a musician to him, then he was only at court when Saul was in a melancholy disposition, and wanted him, and so was going and returning, and in the intervals kept his father's sheep, ( 1 Samuel 17:15 ) ; but now he would not suffer him to attend such business any longer, since he was not only to become a courtier, and be made a prince or noble, but to marry his daughter, according to the declaration he had made, with respect to any man that should kill Goliath.''

Family of missing Lyft driver worried after cryptic texts, disappearance of 3 weeks

''Cryptic texts from bible scriptures is what troubled them the most.

1 Samuel 18:2 says, "David says Saul took him from his home and would not allow him to return," Anderson said.

Ecclesiastes 3:7 says "A time to rip apart, a time to tear apart, a time to be quiet and a time to be silent," Anderson said.

And when his mother contacted Lyft to find out who was Ingram's last customer and Detroit police to file a missing person's report - she claims this was the response:''

Do we know if Mr. Davis' family is from a faith tradition using an Amplified Bible?

(Sounds like what @dotr is quoting.)

What is his family's religious affiliation, I wonder? Was it one that still believes in arranged marriages? IMO

My first thought about this one was the text messages were trying to let someone know without coming out in detail that he was being taken against his will. "Dodge Journey" being the vehicle he was put into and the first bible quote meaning he was being taken away and feared he would never return, the second one could be trying to say he couldn't talk. However, the more I think about it the bible verses could be a clue to the peoples names who took him or a license plate number. It would also be plausable to think that it could be whomever took him playing games and really means nothing at all just a tactic to terrorize the family.

I've been trying to think of other things the text messages might mean (if, indeed, they actually mean anything at all and aren't just someone messing with the family)

"Dodge Journey"
- identity of a vehicle that had something to do with his disappearance
- "D.J." = initials of someone?
- a landmark he can see (a billboard with the vehicle on it?)

"1 Samuel 18:2"
- he's being held against his will & can't return to his family
- he can't physically return to his family at this time but also can't talk freely about what he's doing or why -- maybe he's doing a job for someone? (like David was doing a job for Saul)
- "David" or "Saul" = people he knows?
- license plate numbers? 1SA M182 ? (I forget if standard plates in MI have 6 digits or 7)
- business/location with "Samuel" in its name? (Sam's Club; Samuel C. Mumford High School; Samuel, Son & Co steel distributor; Big Sam Auto Parts salvage yard; Sam's Appliances; etc)

"Ecclesiastes 3:7"
- he can't speak freely
- ???

Been trying to think real hard to what clues if any could be in those text messages and what about decal stickers that you put on your vehicle? Maybe the reference to the bible verses are on a decal on the vehicle he was taken in? As in Dodge Journey is the vehicle and it has two decals with the bible verses on it. Also, I did read that his family says he does have bipolar disorder I'm not real familiar with that one but I wonder if that would cause him to have some sort of breakdown with reality and maybe he lost his way back home. I would think if that were the case the someone else wouldn't have use of his phone now and surely someone would have seen him and phoned it in he's got to be all over the news where he lives and posters should be up letting people know he's missing.

Interesting thought, but neither of those are common Bible passages, certainly not ones that you generally see on things like stickers or decals. In fact, I just did a quick search to try to see if anyone was selling any and couldn't come up with any for purchase.

I am more worried about whom he is dodging from at the moment. (And the fact that the recipient of the text understood the context.)

He drove west, sold his phone just outside of Ann Arbor, and continued his journey presumably. This must be a serious dodge. Whatever it is I hope he has a safe place to stay.

The Dodge Journey could be a text meaning he was leaving going on a journey, not necessarily a car.
@Acorunadepor where did you see he drove west and sold his phone?

I found this news article where his mother says that she attempted to call his phone and a man answered said his name was "Steve" and he had bought the phone from a guy in Ypsilanti 9 days prior to her calling.

Family of missing man says Detroit police are not taking case seriously with plenty of leads

So I am not that tech savy when it comes to selling/transfering phones to others BUT isn't it unusual for the new owner to keep the same number??? I think "Steve" and the phone should be tracked down for sure. This is ridiculous if it is true that LE is not stepping in!

Quoting my own post (with some spelling corrections!) that I just read in the article:
"Detroit Police Captain Lashana Potts tells 7 Action News they are gathering information now to take to the prosecutor’s office for that subpoena and could have it as early as tomorrow. She also says Detroit Police are following up all leads including the digital footprint of the cellphone and number."

That is great news I was wondering when we were going to see some movement on this case. I know police are doing everything they can and the wheels turn slow especially when it comes to all the legal side of things like search warrants and obtaining phone records. I just want someone to say something so we can know where to turn to find him and get him home with his family.
