I have a REALLY GOOD possible match for this UID.

The heights match, the hair color matches, the dates match, the weights match, and also the JD was found in Norvell Township, MI, which is only 40 minutes away from Ann Arbor.

Here’s the link to his NAMUS: The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

His name is Robert Stuewe and I think the reconstruction looks a lot like him.

Hello, this is Gus Burns, a reporter with the Ann Arbor News. If you're willing to speak with me, please call me, 989-372-2495, [email protected]. Thank you, Gus

Any update?
There’s been some issues with communication with LE and the news outlet. That’s really all I can say. They may still do the article, I’m not sure.

Great job Liv!! Do you happen to have the reconstruction that you could post? I always like to compare them after they’re identified in order to hopefully help me when searching for others!

was this not marked as a match because the name was withheld by LE/the family?

  • ''June 1986: Ann Arbor police take a missing report for Stuewe, 25.
  • August 1986: Norvell Township police respond to the 12000 block of Wamplers Lake Road for a decomposed body. The victim is not identified; the death is ruled a homicide.
  • Late 1980s: Dental records used to compare the missing person and the John Doe are mistakenly from a relative of Stuewe—a fact only discovered years later. The case remains “John Doe.”
  • 2008: The Norvell Township case is turned over to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
  • 2015: Sheriff’s detectives work with the Michigan State Police Biometrics Unit to develop a facial sketch, enter it into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NAMUS), and release it to the media. Tips come in, but none match.
  • 2019: An Ann Arbor Police Department analyst connects Stuewe’s missing person case to the NAMUS sketch. With the correct dental records, investigators make a conclusive match: the John Doe found in Norvell Township in 1986 is Robert Lee Stuewe.''

Nearly 40-year-old cold case homicide reopened in Jackson County

''In 2019, an Ann Arbor Police Department analyst made a possible connection between Stuewe and the NAMUS sketch. Correct dental records were obtained and compared with the victim found back in 1986, resulting in a conclusive match.

Evidence recovered from the Norvell Township scene has since been sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for further testing. Detectives from both agencies plan to re-interview family members and friends of Stuewe to get a clearer picture of the days leading up to his disappearance.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will serve as the lead investigating agency since Stuewe’s body was recovered in Jackson County, with Ann Arbor police detectives assisting.''
