Amber Alert issued for baby girl abducted by mom's friend

Officials have issued an Amber Alert for a 1-year-old girl who authorities say was taken late Saturday by a man at a Grand Rapids gas station.

Jaionna Jayzlyn Ross was with her mother, Jennell Michelle Ross, when they pulled into a gas station near 44th Street and Kalamazoo Ave.

Ross had left her daughter in the vehicle and was walking toward the gas station, when an occupant of the vehicle, believed to be a black male in his late 20s named "Terrell," drove off with the baby in the vehicle...

Something seems off about this story. I haven't formed why just yet but my hinky meter is going off. Has the mother made a plea to the public yet?

I wonder if the cameras at the gas station can see if Jaionna was ever in her carseat in the first place.

"When Jennell left the vehicle to walk toward the store, Terrell reportedly drove off with Jaionna still inside, strapped to her carseat. The car was later found a short distance away. The carseat was still inside, but Jaionna was gone."

This article says the carseat is missing too out of the car.

nope. Nor where he works or lives. I hope the cameras at the station got a pic of him if the story is true.

Ross and Terrell are in a new relationship, about a month long, and claims to not know his full name, phone number and where he works.

From Channel 8 report above:

“They've known each other in terms of him hitting on her, tried to pick up on her," Richards said. "They exchanged numbers and had text conversations, but this was their first time going to hang out.”

Interesting. So does she have his phone number or not?

My hinky meter is going way off on this story. Where were they going in the middle of the night that they needed gas and had to bring the baby with them? Why couldn’t “Terrell” go to the gas station while Ross stayed home with Jaionna? I have a feeling that baby was never at the gas station...

To offer another angle, that is one of the worst intersections in the city. I am local and that neighborhood is known for gang violence and prostitution. Is it possible he was a John?

I am not in any way trying to cast judgment just trying to offer possibilities and angles based on my knowledge. I pray Jaionna is found soon and safe.

If she was abducted by an unknown man, I am deeply concerned for her wellbeing. This intersection is also very close to the airport.

WOOD - TV article has been updated:

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids Police have canceled an Amber Alert for a 1-year-old girl from Grand Rapids that went missing Saturday night.

Shortly after 11 a.m. police confirmed that the child had been located and that she is safe.

No information was released about where she was found or whether arrests were made...

Mom pleads guilty for false abduction report

Jennell Ross pleaded guilty Monday to making a false report of a child abduction. In exchange for her plea, she isn’t expected to serve and additional jail time.
