I can't believe how often this is happening. How do you strap your baby in a car seat and then just forget them? I know the struggle with child care can be trying......I raised my youngest son alone, and there were many times arranging childcare while I worked became so frustrating I'd break into tears......but I always knew who had my child, and where he was, I'd call in and check on him during breaks and lunch......how do you just forget about a child for that many hours? I simply do not understand it.

Amazing! The only reason that comes to my mind is someone either on drugs or perhaps a bit narcissistic and self absorbed?

I've had nightmares like that but no way I would forget about one of my children .... so sad!

Conflicting information regarding day of arraignment. One article says this afternoon at 1:30 while another mentions Wednesday morning.

Details of the investigation that led to the charges will be detailed at the arraignment. Stay tuned.

I think you're right

I am not a parent. I am, however, a huge fan of milk. I have never left a gallon of milk in the car either by neglect or intent. Why do some people not value their child more than that?

My grandma (who was soooo wise in the way of babies/children) always said to never leave a child where you would not leave a hundred dollar bill. Back then a hundred dollars was worth a lot more than it is today.....

I was telling dh about this story and we both agreed...we think about our dogs many times a day. When either of us call home when we are gone one of the first questions we ask is about our pup...how is he...has he eaten...has he been out....and on and on.

OT, but relevant. Many years ago I interviewed for a job while my girls were still toddlers. The man who interviewed me said he was sorry but he would not hire anyone with young children because of things others he had in his employment did and called child care! He said he had instances of employees just leaving the children home alone while they were at work!

Did the mother leave the child in the car because she wasn't real bright, because she had malicious intent or because she knew she would lose her job if she had no babysitter and could not go to work? I am not saying leaving the child in the van because she would lose her job absolves her of guilt, but it is a fact that people do lose their jobs because of child care issues. Just horrible!

I'm every bit as diligent, and still somehow manage to forget really really important stuff. Sometimes it's just a accident.

Linda, I think you participated in that general thread about this topic a month or so ago. Do you remember if the parents in those typical cases were charged with murder? (I mean the cases where it was clearly "overworked parent has a change in routine".) I can't remember so not sure what to make of the charge.

One of dh's favorite sayings is "that is why it is called an accident and not an 'on purpose'".

In most cases I agree with that. As a parent (which I am not) being entrusted with a tiny human being should be the uppermost in one's mind. I've never ever forgotten the wellbeing of my dogs. My life hasn't been without stressors but I've always managed to take the best care of them that I can.

I feel for the mother....I really do. I feel for the rest of the family and loved ones. I have empathy that is off the charts. Still...there is a dead little guy that died in horrific circumstances. The poor baby had a core temperature of 108 degrees. I have empathy for him too.

What a horrible, horrible tragedy. I do think that if LE thought of it as an accident (and like some said here, accidents do happen), they would have not gone for 2nd degree murder --- more akin to involuntary manslaughter. I don't know. In any case, this is heartbreaking.

It varies greatly ... I don't know why.
