Attorney: Bob Bashara On Suicide Watch

GROSSE POINTE (WWJ) - The attorney for Bob Bashara said the Grosse Pointe businessman has been placed on suicide watch following his Monday arrest for solicitation of murder.

Speaking to WWJ’s Marie Osborne, Bashara’s attorney David Griem said his client is unstable and completely confused after being arrested for allegedly trying to solicit someone to kill handyman Joseph Gentz – the man charged with killing Bashara’s wife, Jane.

Bashara is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail and Griem said he expects arraignment to take place on Wednesday.

Griem said Bashara was in “complete disbelief” and responded “this is a setup” when told about the charges Monday.

Attorney David Griem told Local 4 Tuesday morning his client, Bob Bashara, has been arrested and could be in court sometime Wednesday.

Bashara was being held at the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department. Police have impounded his car. He was later taken to the Wayne County Jail.

When Griem was asked during Local 4 News Morning what evidence, at this point, has led to the arrest he replied, “I can tell you that solicitation to commit murder cases basically follow the same script. Act 1: Somebody complains about their business partner or wife and wishes that person wasn’t around anymore. The person listening then contacts the police. Act 2: The police wire that person and instruct that person what to raise in a future conversation with the defendant. Act 3: The defendant is caught on tape, arrested and criminally prosecuted. “...

Darkman00 - When I come to Websleuths, this is one thread I always visit to see what is happening. It was with surprise this morning that at the top of this page (45) is a picture of his car being impounded. I couldn't get back a page fast enough to find out why and then there it was......He'd been arrested but not for what we all thought it would be. Thank you so much for keeping us updated! Thank you, Darkman00, for the information you post. I saw a news report on this case today and knew immediately to come to this thread because the information would be better here.

I have actually been concerned for Gentz because I thought BB was capable of trying to do something like this - to take advantage of Gentz's low IQ and getting someone inside the jail to befriend him to do him harm.

If there ever was any doubt BB is at the bottom of Jane's murder, it should be gone now. If there was no plot, there was no reason to kill Gentz too.

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Law enforcement sources are telling 7 Action News that the arrest of Bob Bashara unfolded rapidly after police learned of the alleged plot.

7 Action News is being told that Bashara approached someone he trusted last week to arrange the murder of Joe Gentz . Sources are telling us that it was that unidentified person who approached police.

Police are conducting extra patrols around the former girlfriend of Robert Bashara because she fears he may have hired someone to kill her, according to the woman's attorney.

Bashara is locked up in the Wayne County Jail after his arrest Monday. A police source familiar with the investigation said Bashara was caught on tape trying to solicit someone to kill Joseph Gentz, the handyman who also is in jail facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the slaying of Bashara's wife, Jane.

Rumors surfaced several months ago that a hit had been taken out on Gentz, said his attorney, Susan Reed. She added that Gentz, who has been incarcerated in the Dickerson Facility in Hamtramck since his March arrest, is not in general population, and that guards had been keeping a close eye on him before the rumors began circulating.

"There weren't many details to the rumors, but as soon as I heard them I advised the authorities," Reed said. "I don't understand how someone could think they could have someone killed in prison; apparently (Bashara) has been watching too much TV. About two weeks ago, that was the plot on a rerun of 'The Closer.'"

Gotta luv a stupid Narcissistic criminal. It's always their downfall. As much as i didn't like the GF in the beginning I came to know she was strung along for the most part. One of the articles way back stated she did fear Bob and i believe had an order of protection. I cant blame her. Who knows how desperate Bob is/was. I did get the impression the GF would have testified if Bob was charged and she was needed.
