The Wayne County prosecutor has been adamant that they would not comment on this case since taking over the investigation. However, they've now scheduled a news conference for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday to address Monday's arrest of Bob Bashara. He is also expected to be arraigned on very serious charges in 36th District Court Wednesday afternoon.

"David, I was set up. I want you to know that I was set up."

Attorney David Griem says those were Bashara's last words to him as he was led away to the Wayne County Jail where he's sleeping in Kwame Kilpatrick's old cell and waiting to be arraigned, but not for killing his wife, Jane Bashara. She was found strangled inside her Mercedes SUV in an alley on Detroit's east side at the end of January. Rather, Bashara was arrested for allegedly trying to hire somebody to kill Joe Gentz, Bashara's handyman who admitted to killing Jane, but said Bob Bashara hired him to do it....

"Relief. Just relief. Not even joy. I mean just relief. There is nothing to be happy about," said Cathy Ross.

Ross, a member of the group Justice 4 Jane, was meeting at a Grosse Pointe Park restaurant Tuesday a few feet away from where Bashara was arrested 24 hours ago. The message from members is strong, but silent, instead using lawn signs and bracelets to show their support for their dear friend, who was found strangled in her SUV on Detroit's east side six months ago. That is until now.

"We were all in a state of disbelief. How can this person be walking the streets and getting away with what everyone felt that he got away with," Ross said.

A source tells us Bashara tried using a middleman who knew someone behind bars who could get the job done. That man went to police.

A source says authorities recorded the deal where Bashara paid the guy a couple thousand dollars to make it happen -- a jailhouse hit on Gentz.

A couple of days later, Bashara was arrested outside his Mack Avenue property, his SUV searched and impounded.

Bashara is now behind bars at the Wayne County Jail where he awaits charges.

It's a case full of twists and turns, but for longtime friends of the beloved mother and businesswoman who are still devastated by her death, it's one step closer to justice for Jane.

"I think everyone will just cheer when he goes away," said Ross.

Bashara is expected to be arraigned Wednesday. The Wayne County prosecutor will hold a press conference at 11:00 a.m.

Meantime, Fox 2 also spoke to Bashara's attorney David Griem, who said his client is despondent and knows that he could go away for a very long time. We're told he is on suicide watch.

Bashara case takes another odd twist

Charges expected today in alleged hit for hire of witness

Grosse Pointe Park— A case full of unexpected twists took a bizarre turn this week when the husband of a slain marketing executive was arrested for allegedly trying to hire someone to silence the man he allegedly paid to kill his wife.

Said one legal expert, University of Detroit law professor Larry Dubin: "This is a very strange and unusual case."

"A lot of the events in this case," Dubin said, "nobody saw them coming."

Dubin said: "It certainly is an unusual situation, where you allegedly have Mr. Bashara hiring a hit man to kill someone who's already in jail — who is also allegedly a hit man himself."

"There have been cases where people have been hired to kill people who are incarcerated, but that's usually a gangland or mob thing, where one guy is a snitch and someone in another gang has him killed," University of Michigan law professor David A. Moran said. "But I'm not sure I've seen a situation like this."

Bob Bashara dealings caught on tape

Bob Bashara is accused of soliciting a man he had prior dealings with and offered him $2,000 to kill a witness in his wife's killing case -- which was caught on tape, the Free Press learned Tuesday.

Bashara is expected to be arraigned today on a charge of solicitation to murder Joseph Gentz.

Authorities have Bob Bashara on tape, a source said...

David Griem, Bashara's attorney, said Tuesday that he expected police had a recording as evidence in the case. He said he heard Bashara is being accused of offering $2,000 for a hit against Gentz, but said his client believes he has been set up.

Susan Reed, Gentz's attorney, said Steve Virgona, who once lived with Gentz, had someone tell her a month ago about the supposed killing plot against her client. Because Gentz is in jail, she said she was led to believe that's where the hit would happen.

Reed said she alerted officials at the jail, where she said Gentz has been segregated from the general population.

Virgona confirmed that he alerted Reed, saying he felt like a hit would happen. He said people he knows in law enforcement told him it was a possibility.

'He was shocked'

Griem said he spoke to Bashara on Monday night, and he said his client was in disbelief.

"He was shocked, he was surprised, he didn't know why he had been arrested," Griem said, adding that before Bashara was transferred from Grosse Pointe Park police lockup to the Wayne County Jail, he said to Griem: " 'David, this is a setup.' "

Griem said Bashara believes the man who set him up is someone he knows, but not well. He said he thinks the man is someone who sold furniture and appliances to Bashara.

Griem said Bashara told him the man approached him with the idea of killing Gentz on several occasions, but Bashara turned him down.

During a jail visit Tuesday, Griem said Bashara told him his top concern was for his mother and children. And also, Griem said: he wanted a pizza.

Investigators say they have video and audio of Bob Bashara attempting a hit on his former handyman, Joe Gentz, who confessed to killing Bashara's wife, Jane.

An informant worked with police in a sting operation and Bashara, 54, allegedly paid $2,000 for the hit, even signing a receipt, sources told ABC News.

But Bashara's attorney said his client was framed. "We think we have figured out who that person is who set him up," David Griem said.

If you hire someone to take out a hit on Gentz, then you're going to have to hire another hit-man to kill the hit-man that killed Gentz, and then you will have to hire another one to kill the one that killed the one that killed Gentz.... and on and on it goes. Don't you see? After a while, you are going to run outta hit-men!!!
