At 4:11 pm the day of the murder, Jane called Jessica. She began the call in downtown Detroit area, and ended the call near her house.

They talked as Jane drove down Jefferson from work in downtown Detroit. When she got home, she told her daughter she'd call her back.



Jessica testified that the last time she talked to her mother the call lasted about 30 minutes.

Jessica testified she expected to talk with her mother again that night. She said her father called her around 9 p.m. that night asking if she had any idea where her mother was.

She said her father said Jane Bashara wasn't home and didn't leave a note.

"I didn't understand the concern," Jessica said, saying she saw her mother as a woman who could take care of herself. She said she could have been at CVS.

Jessica said she thought it was strange she couldn't get in touch with her mother that night. She said the next morning she went to class. At about 11 a.m. she said she got a call from her mother saying they still couldn't find her mother.

Jessica said she called different hotels in the area, thinking maybe her mother and father had gotten into a fight.

She said then her father called her, told her to pack a bag, that she was coming home. Jessica testified that when he heard people were there to pick her up, he told her that her mother was dead.

Jessica Bashara never heard Joseph Gentz's name until after her mother's murder. When his name came out in media her dad talked about him.

Jessica testified that her father first said Gentz had never been to the house on Middlesex, then later he said that Gentz came to the house during the fall to help rake leaves.

She hasn't been looking at her father much. After the judge took a break, Jessica seemed to wait until her father was taken out of the room to walk by the defense table to leave.
