They're showing pictures of Jane's body. Her mom is sobbing behind me.
Forget all the crazy stuff in this trial - that hits home.
Jane is shown kneeling in the backseat, facing the rear of the SUV.
Bob slipped on his glasses and is looking at some papers, not the screen.

Elisha Anderson ‏@elishaanderson ·
Pictures of Jane Bashara's body put on screen in court.
Her mother is here and put hands over her face and wiped tears as they were shown.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN · Detroit, MI
Olsen said Jane's belongings were strewn about the SUV "for show," but that statement was stricken because judge said it was opinion.
Olsen said it appeared to be a staged scene. "The person would not be placed in the backseat of their vehicle."
Olsen: "This is something way different from a robbery. Somebody (wanted) to make you believe it was maybe something that it wasn't."
At first when he saw Jane's pills, he thought it may have been an overdose. Said DPD often sees ODs where someone panics and leaves body

Now that the graphic pictures are off the screen, Bob is looking up from his papers.

Elisha Anderson ‏@elishaanderson ·
Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey: “Did you believe this to be a staged scene?” Olsen: “Yes.”

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN · Detroit, MI
Shortly after leaving the scene, Olsen and another cop went to Bob's house and found him standing on the front porch.
A fellow DPD sergeant and Capt. Locke from GPP were also there.
Bob let the officers in and invited them to sit down at a table. The conversation was just supposed to be a notification that they found Jane
Olsen: "There wasn't really a lot of reaction (from Bob)"
Judge: "Reaction or emotion?"
Olsen: "Both."
Although Olsen said Bob showed no emotion, prosecutors showed a TV clip in which Bob said: "I think I fell to my knees" (when notified)
Olsen: “It took about 10 minutes or so before he even asked what happened to his wife?”
Before Bob even asked what happened, "the whole conversation was, to my thinking, a scripted event." Objection - sustained.
Instead of asking what happened, Bob offered up an alibi about his whereabouts.

Elisha Anderson ‏@elishaanderson ·
Olsen, and other investigators, went to Bob Bashra's house and told him that his wife's vehicle was found, she was inside and deceased.
Olsen: "There wasn’t really a lot of reaction.”

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN · Detroit, MI
When Olsen notified Bob about finding Jane's body, Bob laid out everything that happened that day. "He was exact on the time."
"At some point, he asked exactly what had happened to his wife." Olsen didn't give any details, though.
“During that time…we had an ongoing investigation where young ladies were found in the trunks of their vehicles on the far east side.”
Bob "made a quick notation that maybe what happened to his wife was maybe similar to what happened to these young ladies."
Judge asked cop to recount exactly what he told Bob about where Jane was found. Answer: "That she was just found in her vehicle."
Prosecutors playing another TV report. Bob: "Please come forward. In addition to those women who have been put in the trunks."
As that was playing, one of Jane's relatives muttered twice: "Sick. Sick."
#bobbashara has provided the prosecutors with a lot of evidence by his media statements early on.

Elisha Anderson ‏@elishaanderson ·
Prosecutors played an interview Bashara gave to TV reporter where he said he thought he fell to knees when he got the news.

Olsen said conversation ended "when a young lady came into the front door in hysterics. At that point it was time for me to leave.”
Later that day, Bob was on the TV news. Clip being shown now. Bob: "I have no clue. I have no idea what happened. I lost my girlfriend"
That was Bob's first TV interview.
Bob went to the GPP police station on the 26th for a second interview. He wasn't under arrest.
Olsen said he had a plan on how to interview the husband of a dead woman. "If you come across too hard, you may lose the person entirely."
Olsen said some things not truthful. "I made up a story (about having a wife) to see if I could draw it out."
If a child was involved, he said he'd pretend to have a child that age, to make the person feel comfortable.
Also, "I do this as well to see if they show any emotion. Do they show frustration because I'm asking such a stupid question. Do they cry?"
Olsen: "Everybody can feel emotion in the room. You take that into consideration, and you put it all together."
Attorneys now discussing something w judge.

Bob, to cop: "She has a huge 401(k). She makes about $80,000-$90,000. Last year with United, I made about $32k. I don't make a lot of money"

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN · Detroit, MI

Bob telling how Jane smoked weed. "I used to smoke when I was in high school; I haven't touched it in awhile. Maybe she went to buy some."
Bob didn't mention he smoked weed and did coke.
Defense argues that Bob did coke in 2009, according to his friend's testimony.
Bob: "I don't want to slam my poor wife. I mean, you can't bust her for smoking pot. She's..." His voice trailed off and he chuckled.

Court back in session. http://Alt.com , a BDSM website, sent Bashara a message Jan. 27, 2012, days after his wife's was found dead.

Bob's http://alt.com screen name was MBs_Triad.
Detective Olsen is telling Bob details about investigation. Bob asks if there are cameras on Jefferson that'll show Jane driving home
Bob asks: "Do you think this new influx of officers will help?"
Olsen: "It's more for neighborhood safety." Not with this case.
Bob: "May I ask a few questions? One of the gals (in the media) took me by shock that my wife was strangled to death."
Bob asks cop if strangulation was the cause of death. "People ask...my kids ask me, 'How did Mom die?' I have nothing to say to them."

Bob asking "there's no sexual thing...she wasn't raped? It's just that, you lay awake at night and think what she must've gone through."
Throughout this entire interview, conducted the day after police told Bob his wife was dead, he has shown no emotion at all. Calm. Joking.
Video is now showing cops taking a DNA swab from inside Bob's mouth.
Bob mentions to GPP Capt. Locke that in 2002 he was an officer, "And now you're captain."
Locke: "Yeah, strange things happen around here"
Video of Bob's interview with Olsen and Locke is now over.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN · Detroit, MI
Now a snippet of Bob's "sunglasses interview" for media is shown. Bob said he's being cooperative.
Lisa: "Was he cooperative?"
Olsen: "No."
Because Bob didn't tell him everything about affairs, etc.
The same day, Olsen said, tips began coming in about Rachel
After getting tip, Olsen ran a LEIN check on Rachel. Her address on Cadieux was linked to Bob.
At this point, Olsen said he began to realize Bob wasn't telling him everything
Olsen requested a warrant for the Bashara home, for all financial records, computers, bodily fluids, and possible weapons.
During interview, the Secret Service agent asked Bob if he'd had an affair. Bob said 8 years ago. Olsen said Bob didn't tell him that.
Olsen is recounting when Bob pointed to his Rotary pin and said he couldn't have killed Jane because he was president of the Rotary Club
On Jan 27th, GPP Police Chief declared Bob a person of interest in the case. Judge asking if that's different than a suspect; cop said no
Up until the 27th, Bob still hadn't mentioned Gentz to cops.
But on the 29th, two days after being named a person of interest, Bob wrote his letter to the GPP chief, naming "Goetz" as possible suspect
Gentz turned himself into GPP police Jan. 31.
Gentz was released from GPP police, and later arrested at the Macomb County courthouse after prosecutors signed arrest warrant.
Direct exam of Olsen is done.

Thursday, November 6. 2014, the twelfth day of testimony. Only one witness today.

The 37th witness overall, David Olsen, Detroit Police Undercover Homicide Investigator.
On January 26, 2012, DO responded to the run-down Detroit neighborhood where Jane Bashara was found dead inside her SUV in an alley, about eight miles from the Bashara home.

Jane's mom sat through heartbreaking testimony today. Must have taken all of her strength to do so.
In the meantime, bb couldn't even look up while pictures were being shown of Jane's dead body inside her SUV. Subhuman imo.

Investigator Olsen is expected to take the stand again tomorrow morning, Friday.

COURT TWEETS FROM THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2014

ALL TWEETS FROM FOX2 REPORTER: AMY LANGE

Good Morning!
Hope all is well with everybody.
We are here in room 802 at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice waiting for Judge Vonda Evans to take the bench
We'll be hearing from a DPD homicide detective and watching an interview he conducted with Bob Bashara

Investigator Don Olson with DPD homicide takes the stand
He's been in homicide since 2002 - and has investigated hundreds - it's just a blur after so many years
He's been the officer in charge of probably 200 cases
He was officer in charge on the Joe Gentz case - January 25th 9:45am he says they responded to the scene on Annott where Jane's body was
Scene was well secured by 9th precinct when he arrived - GPP officers were there too.
The weather that day was cold - around 32 degrees
Showing him pics of the Mercedes
He describes the neighborhood where the Mercedes was left - lots of abandoned houses
These was unusual because normally a car like this tires would be gone, catalytic converter, radio, dvd, gps.
Sometimes motors and seats are taken out - airbags
But the Mercedes SUV is in perfect condition
Keys are on the floorboard - ignition is intact
Now jurors being shown a pic of Jane's body in the backseat.
Jane's mother is here and she is crying - being comforted by her family
Olson describing the positioning of her body - imagine kneeling on the floor of your backseat facing the back so you're leaning over with your head on the seat.
That's how Jane's body is stuffed in the back with a coat placed on her haphazardly now we are seeing another photo
In this photo you can see bruising on the back of her neck
Another angle - you can see that Jane's arms have been stuffed into her coat but the coat is not covering her body
Olson says someone placed that coat on her after she was attacked
Jane's mother is not looking at the photos - she is keeping her eyes closed and Kleenex over her face
Jane is not wearing shoes but there are shoes in the car - there's a blanket and some slippers

COURT TWEETS FROM THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2014

ALL TWEETS FROM FOX2 REPORTER: AMY LANGE

Now looking at a photo of the passenger side of the vehicle that shoes Jane's purse on the floor with all of the belongings dumped out, you can see medication, gum, checkbook, ID, cellphone. He says it looks staged.
Olson says this is something way different than a robbery - someone placed all of this to look like something it wasn't - like a street robbery or carjacking
Victim has jewelry - necklace, watch, one earring
All of this leads to the conclusion that this is no random carjacking
Before he viewed the body in detail he thought maybe it was an overdose and somebody panicked and put the body in the back and left
Then saw on left side of the face - the bruising and marks - one fingernail was torn - gave him the idea that there had been a struggle
Olson went to the Bashara home on Middlesex at 10:45am
The detectives talked about how they were going to make notification and handle an interview. Olson was going to take the lead in the notification
They looked over at the front door and Bob Bashara was on the front porch
They walked up to the house and introduced themselves and Bob invited them in
Olson did not say he was from homicide - just from DPD
Bob had Olson sit down. Bob sat across from him. It was supposed to just be a notification. We found your wife's vehicle, she was inside and deceased when we find her. He did not tell him where the body was found or anything about trauma to the body.
Olson says there wasn't a lot of reaction or emotion from Bob
