Cross-exam by Bob's attorney Michael McCarthy.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
McCarthy: "If you got evicted...you'd just go out and find another place to live, is that right?"
Fick: "It's not that easy."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI Fick: "Bob Bashara would let anybody move into his apartments. He didn't care."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI McCarthy is asking Fick why he was fearful of being evicted. "You could get another place."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
McCarthy: "(Bob) didn't control you, did he?"
Fick: "No."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
Fick said he made more money doing side jobs than he did working for Bob.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI McCarthy: "You didn't move into that place with the idea of dying there, did you?"

"No."

Fick, when asked why he changed his mind and told police about Rachel: "I was just scared. I'd never been through anything like this before"

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
Fick said prosecutors, "Had me scared shitless."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI McCarthy asked if he ever told someone named Darien Smith that Bob wanted him to "f%#$k his old lady."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
Fick said he did remember being asked that question by prosecutors but said "I don't know a Darien Smith."

Moran doing redirect....

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
Back on Darien Smith...Moran asking Fick if he recalls prior to being asked about Smith being asked about other tenants.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
Questions about Dante Jones, and a fire led up to the question about Darien Smith.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI Question: Why did prosecutors ask Fick whether Bob told this Darian Smith to have sex with his "old lady"?

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI Judge asked Fick if he knew Darien Smith; he said he doesn't.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI
The morning Fick was to testify the 2nd time, he got a call from Bob's lawyer. "They wanted to meet with me."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 15h15 hours ago Detroit, MI Bob called Fick twice after he talked to prosecutors wanting to know what he'd said.
Moran" "How'd that make you feel?"
Fick: "Like ****"

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI When Moran said Bob told Fick to lie, McCarthy jumped up to object, and judge told him to calm down. Jury laughed

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI Fick: "(Bob) just told me, 'Do not say anything to the police about Rachel Gillett.'"

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI McCarthy doing redirect. Fick: "It would take (Bob) so long to pay me."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI Fick is done.

Moran said he's done; Judge said "let's check and see if we've got another witness." But there are no more witnesses. Done for the day

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI
Judge, to jury: "Have a nice weekend."
Then: "Mr. Bashara, make sure you bring your reading glasses."

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI Judge says starting next week, we'll do 5-6 witnesses a day. She wants to move this trial along, apparently.

George Hunter ‏@GeorgeHunter_DN 14h14 hours ago Detroit, MI Judge: "We want to do 6 a day. We're only doing 4-5 a day, and that's just not adequate."

Thanks again, Darkman. Ya know what would move this trial on faster is to actually have court in session for 5 or 6 HOURS PER DAY -- or even 7 hours! They might even wrap it up by Christmas. Highly doubt this will happen, tho.

This completes the fifth week of trial.
I read a comment from October 15th suggesting the trial would probably last four to six weeks.

Woe - Like your emoticon (sarcastic). ha! I'm going to guess ANOTHER four to six weeks, at a minimum.

Some further comments from Court
Spoke with Amy Lange again just prior to going in. Such a nice Gal. Bailliff is a hoot. Went to seat and he said Oh that's where I sit. We slid down. Said it to us again LOL Which wasn't tru of course. Jury is seated and a wide range of ages over say 30. Where we sat large TV cameras in the way of seeing each Juror. Judge Evans has a very pleasant speaking voice but she constantly asks witnesses questions that IMO are not that relevant. To the point of interrupting the Lawyers. At one point I noticed the Bailliff even rolling his eyes LOL IMO this Trial will not be over by Thanksgiving.

I think the most memorable witness was William Schatz. Small man who walks with quite a limp. Felt sorry for the man and heard many comment same. He had a bit of an ill fitting suit on and constantly apologized. English was a bit poor and he stated his memory was not good. Nice how Bob took advantage of some of these folks!!! William provided a few laughs as he was animated at times and folks were laughing with him not at him. Kind of guy you could tell had a big heart and could easily be taken advantage of. Stated he was afraid of Bob. When he was shown a Pic of Tommy who is now deceased he said loudly "Whoa" stated he was still scared of him LOL Tommy and Bob were the one's who cornered him in the laundry room and told him to keep his mouth shut. He stated he was a gossiper and hung his head LOL

Robert Flick (Ponytail Bob) was very nervous and red faced. Stated he had blood pressure issues in the past and did lie in prior statements made. Staed he was afraid of losing the work Bob provided him as handyman. Judge had another issue with her tire (as she did last week) Rec'd a call and left the bench. Many were irrate at this point. There were 2 ladies behind me and as we stood when Evans left the bench they were very angry. Evident by their faces. One looked at me and stated she is the worst Judge. I wondered if they were friends of Jane as they were so visibly upset. I know there were not Jane's Sisters as I saw them first day I attended Court (day it was cancelled when Bob was ill)

There is much friendly and animated banter between all the Lawyers. And at times with reporters. When Diallo enters you know it. She is friendly and greets everyone. Uses lots of hand gestures and when questioning a witness and makes a point she sits down in her chair hard LOL Bob looks horrid. Pasty and hair looks greasy and unkept. He never looked in the Gallery except at one point in the aft. when he entered after lunch. It was a long noticeable glare/stare and we were all wondering who it was directed at???

Chatted with Elisha Gina and George Hunter. Both George and Gina have colds. Days are long enough so kudos to them all but especial those ill. When I mentioned this site George said you guys are awesome and some really good minds here. I thanked him and said I would pass that along. He especially enjoyed Hinky Meter as well. I believe George said it was a Detective that pointed out this site to him some time ago. I think that's about it folks.

Bravo -- BRAVO!!!! Thanks SO much for sharing all your observations of witnesses, etc.! Very fun reading. I'd love to go down there but frankly, I'm too scared! I don't like Detroit, and my girlfriends won't go with me. Boo hoo! Is parking difficult? How far away from courthouse do you park? What's the cost of parking? I'd love to meet George Hunter -- he's just the best at Twitter! Thanks, again, for your up-close-and-personal missives...hope you're down there again real soon to update us, and who knows -- maybe I'll muster up the courage soon to be there myself. ha!

Your very welcome. I would have gladly met you there. Not sure if I will get back but will let you know. George is very nice and easy to talk with. The Courthouse parking is shut down right now. Doing some kind of work on it. Courthouse is basically in Greektown and I knew it was a comfortable area. Despite being Canadian I have many Family in Michigan. There are 2 parking areas maybe a block from the Courthouse that charge 5.00 for the day and an Attendant is present. You can also park in the Greektown Casino tho I dont know what they charge for the day. I was very comfortable with the short walking we had to do. Keep me posted if u go.

  • #456
ETA- I cant remember the names of the streets that had the 5.00 parking. I'll see if my Gal Pal remembers and let you know. Both were only 5.00 for the day.

Sat right behind Elisha, Gina and George so it was easy to chat with them. Oh and Gina showed me how her blog looks on her laptop as comments come in. I told her I dont know how you keep up with testimony and questions. She is younger than I tho LOL. Mandi wasn't there as apparently she had another case to cover they said.

:tyou: Bravo for sharing your courtroom experiences.

Bravo, glad you had a safe trip to and from the courthouse. The icy weather is moving in early this year - ugh!

Interesting observations regarding Wm. S's demeanor. Do you think the jurors realize how bb preys on the less advantaged? He found tenants who he could manipulate. It seems he needs to feel he's the boss and tries to control people using fear tactics. The handymen were put in a very bad situation after their duties crossed over to having to protect bb. I believe they really were afraid.
