A judge on Thursday denied Bob Bashara's request for a mistrial based on allegations he was denied a fair trial because of the media and ineffective counsel from his legal team.

Bashara made a lengthy speech explaining two motions he wanted Judge Vonda Evans to review ahead of his sentencing that was scheduled for 9 a.m.

The Grosse Pointe Park man said his trial proceedings were "corrupted" by the media, specifically the live streaming of some of the testimony. He also took issue that Joe Gentz never testified and that his attorneys never filed a change of venue request - even though he wanted them to...

Detroit — The murder trial of Robert Bashara, already marked by unexpected twists, took another bizarre turn Thursday when he asked for a mistrial during his sentencing hearing, claiming prosecutors and the media compromised his right to a fair trial.

"The jury poisoning and media corruption of this trial ... blackened my eye and made me a monster," Bashara said, reading from a prepared statement.

Bashara, who was found guilty last month in connection with the 2012 slaying of his wife Jane, filed an emergency motion for a mistrial, saying he had "ineffective counsel." ...

I wonder if this morning's "delay" will alter what Judge Evans says as she imposes sentence on Mr. Bashara. She seemed pretty annoyed with his antics.
