Saginaw County cold case murder suspect back in court, hires new attorney

- SAGINAW, MI. (WJRT) - The man accused of raping and killing a woman more than 21 years ago was back in court today.
Jason Cabello was arrested a week ago in the cold case homicide of Jeanette Wilton.
Her body was found in the Flint River in February of 2003.'' - She was 57 years old when her body was discovered in the Flint River in late February of 2003.
She had been stabbed and sexually assaulted.
''The arrest of Cabello, who was married to Wilton's niece at the time of the crime, surprised many in the Saginaw area. Cabello is a long time Saginaw city employee.'' - Dec 10 2024

How did it get there, when did it get there, under what circumstances did it get there, and if its a match," he says.''Jeanette Wilton was found dead in the Flint River on Feb. 22, 2003, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Attorney General. An autopsy showed that the 57-year-old woman died of strangulation and multiple stab wounds to the neck, authorities say. She also sustained blunt force trauma to her head and face, the release says, and injuries that occurred after her death.
The case went cold, but in 2021, the Michigan State Police Third District Cold Case Team reopened the investigation, hoping to benefit from advancements in DNA testing.''
