Her mom said Jess had an accounting degree but "lost it" after a close friend died and then her ex husband died as well. Important to always remember that tough times know no bounds.

Michigan State Police said Thursday that Keyvonte Deshawn Clark, 31, of Detroit, was arraigned in the 36th District Court for first-degree murder, mutilation of a dead body, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.

He was charged after what police called “hundreds of hours of work which spanned several years” related to the disappearance of 24-year-old Jessica Bedford of Detroit in May of 2020.

Defense pushed for a reasonable bond and said that the evidence for Clark’s alleged involvement was weak and that the prosecution was using information from unreliable people from 2021. He argued that Clark wasn’t a flight risk because of his ties to the community, citing his family living in Detroit, and his owning a home and business there. Additionally, the defense said Clark knew he was a suspect for years and was being investigated, but he still didn’t flee.

Prosecution argued that it wasn’t his ties to the community that kept him in Detroit, but his hubris and that they have evidence that supports witness statements, regardless of how old they may be.

Details of Disappearance

Bedford's family last heard from her on May 10, 2020, when she called her mother to wish her a happy Mother's Day. On May 13, at 1:30 a.m., she sent a text message to a friend. She has never been heard from again. At the time of her disappearance, her thirteen-year-old daughter lived with her mother. Her mother reported her missing on May 30.

Bedford's mother stated her daughter fell on hard times a few years before her disappaerance and began spending time with "rough people". Her last known address was on Hanover Street in Lincoln Park, Michigan, but she was also known to spend time with friends in the Brightmoor neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan and to frequent a Marathon gas station in Inkster, Michigan. She told her mother that her boyfriend was abusing her, and sent her mother a photo of herself with a bruised eye.

In April 2025, Keyvonte Deshawn Clark was charged with first-degree murder, mutilation of a dead body, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm use in Bedford's case. Investigators believe he shot and killed her at his residence in the 12000 block of Cloverlawn Street in Detroit, then moved her remains to another location. They have never been found.

Clark is awaiting trial. Foul play is suspected in Bedford's disappearance due to the circumstances involved.

Keyvonte Deshawn Clark, 31, appeared in a Wayne County courtroom where a longtime friend and an ex-girlfriend provided powerful testimony about what they heard him say in the days following Bedford’s disappearance.

According to a witness described as a longtime friend of Clark, the suspect came to his door one night in 2020 and confessed, “I f–ed up” and “I shot the b—.” The witness initially didn’t believe him, but later said he met up with Clark and another mutual friend who mentioned needing help in the basement of Clark’s home and referenced moving a body.

Just terrible. I can’t imagine why some people do the things they do.
