Good call. Someone could have said the vacuum ate their quarters or something. The vendor angle also makes sense. Beer, pop, fuel...there are probably 10 vendors in there every day. I bet they are all being checked out. Also, anyone who works over at the strip mall or across at G&L Chili Dogs might know the routine. There are lots of factories right down the road on Old Grand Haven Rd. It crosses Sternberg, and would be on the direct route from the factories to the highways. Second shift would be letting out at about 10:30-11:00 pm.

I'm so glad you're here. I really appreciate all of the information, we wouldn't have it if not for you.

I'm thinking about how many people Jessica or any employee at these kind of stores encounter.

And being friendly and helpful is a huge asset.

And the manager and company left her completely alone and vulnerable.... WHY??? FGS!

Just a quick thought following up on those upstream who were pondering about the van. Way back when I got out of school, we used to make fun of a single male friend of mine because he drove a minivan. He had the minivan, with the rear seats taken out, because he sold the seats you see in McDonald's and other restaurants like that and kept his product in the back of the van. Was just a thought that jumped out at me when others were discussing the van...could be a single male who is in sales.

<respectfully snipped>

Police are also looking for a white male between 30 and 40 years old – medium to heavy build with broad shoulders – with light brown or sandy blonde hair.

Ok, broad shoulders (and medium to heavy build, I wonder if this means chubby or muscular, or in between, ugh)
Maybe this guy works out at that gym closeby? Or maybe he's got broad shoulders bc his work entails heavy lifting (vendor)??

Going to go back and look at this gym nearby...flyers should be posted at all gyms in the area, imo, in case someone recognizes the van as belonging to a regular member...

Maybe he was possibly working out around 10pm that night? I wonder if the gym has parking lot surveillance cameras to id a possible minivan? Internal cameras? (Though many people might fit the description, ugh again)

This is all such a reach, I know, sorry!

<edit> Here's a link to the 24 hour gym on the same street:

ps: is that a cam on top of the traffic light, or just standard part of its assembly?

What bothers me about this disappearance is that robbery wasn't a primary or secondary motive. The question becomes what was the motive for the abduction? Although I hope for the best, I have a bad gut feeling. If the perpetrator's plan wasn't to bring Ms. Heeringa to a secondary location and keep her (at least for some period of time) alive, what could he have done?

There is a large industrial area just to the south of the station. The borders for the industrial area are Sternberg to the North, US-31 to the East, Grand Haven Rd to the West and Pontaluna Rd to the South. There are a lot of wooded areas and vacant lots in the industrial area.

I drove up to the area today around 5:00 pm and saw a Michigan State Police K9 unit searching the field directly across Sternberg in the Northeast corner of the industrial area. It is very possible that the perpetrator took her to this remote area across the street. The State Police K9 unit searching the area makes it seem like they have a similar theory. I pray she is found safe. What is wrong with people today?

No it's a good idea margarita25. I wish I could help more just keep thinking about the little 3 year old boy missing his mommy.

Ok, does the chili dog place, G & L, have cams? If so, LE would oooobviously be looking at it.

http://www.glchilidogs.com/

I'm willing to bet LE has camera footage from somewhere...

Here is a street view of the chili dog place FWIW (you have to select "more", then "street view"):

Any creepers at the chilidog place, lol?

It looks like a camera that would go off if someone goes through a red light I may be wrong.

I can't believe how many silver minivans there are out there. I saw two Silver Town & Country Minivans on my drive up (approximately 5 miles) and saw another 5-10 silver minivans (most Town & Countries) in the area surrounding the station. There was a silver Town & Country parked next to the news van which was parked at the G&L restaurant across the street from the gas station. Although that seems way too obvious, I still wrote down the license plate number of that Town & Country strictly because of the proximity to the gas station.

Really?? Glad they've got the dogs out. I've been wondering about the searches / canvasses.

Do you have a cross street?

This gym actually shares a parking lot with the Exxon station. This gym is in the strip mall. It is open 24/7 and members get a key card so they can enter whenever they want. I am pretty sure it would not be staffed at that time of night. My own gym works that way. My gym definately has cameras inside, not sure about outside. But I bet this gym has them inside too. They want to make sure they keep an eye on things when the gym is unstaffed. I hope the police are checking into this. The key card keeps an electronic record of everyone who comes in and out, and what time they do so.

And I think that might be a camera on that stoplight. It seems like I remember talk of putting cameras at those intersections when they put the mall in.

Really tired, exams tomorrow. Going to bed. Hopefully when I wake up, Jessica will be home with her family.

It looks like a camera that would go off if someone goes through a red light I may be wrong.

I don't believe that is a traffic camera. There are multiple traffic cameras set up on the intersection of Sternberg Rd and Harvey St that go off if someone goes through a red light. However, I believe the traffic lights for that particular intersection turn off at 11:00 pm local time. All of the lights are blinking red, turning the intersection into a four way stop so the cameras are turned off.

ok, sorry to quote myself, here is a street view of the chili dog place FWIW.

For those who are unfamiliar with the area, the street view gives a good idea of how isolated the gas station is. It is worse at 11:00 pm at night. The G&L restaurant closes between 9-10 pm. There isn't a lot of traffic either.

This is from the reporter who did such a good job tweeting today's press conference at noon.

Leon Hendrix ‏@LeonHendrix 12m
Here's what we know about the Norton Shores gas station abduction. Jessica Heeringa is still missing. http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/news/local/muskegon_county/missing-woman-case-officially-abduction …

Also from this link:

"Norton Shores Police Chief Daniel Shaw said Heeringa helped a customer at 10:50 p.m. and a call to 911 reporting the empty gas station was made at 11:15 p.m. In that 25 minutes, Shaw said, "something very bad happened."

"Between the time that last purchase was made and the time that the customers came in and found the store empty is when Jessica was abducted," Shaw said. "We have spoken with the person who made the purchase there and cleared them of any wrong. And unfortunately, they didn't see anything that would lead them to believe there was something going on at the store that was leading to that abduction."

Just saw the headlines for this case. I'm very worried for Jessica. This doesn't sound good... :(

Now to go back and catch up on the thread.

Do you have a cross street?

Yes. If you look at the street view that you posted, there is a road that runs next to the G&L. If you're looking at the G&L from Sternberg, there is a field to the left (East). The State Trooper and K9 were in that field between the road that runs next to G&L and the on ramp to US-31 South. If you see the building at the south end of the field, that is where the police vehicle was parked.

There are some points of interest one could search, it appears from looking at the map, such as the Lake Harbor Park area, or Mona Lake area, PJ Hoffmaster Campground & State Park, Little Black Lake...

C'mon LE, give us something to go on!

ps: good luck with your exams Flutter!
