The closest we would be to Canada is probably 3-4 hours...
My daughter used to work at a concession in a campground just off 31 ( but about 15 miles south of there..) and at night, working alone, would have to take the days reciepts about 100 feet thru the woods to the office... I always thought how very easy it would be for someone to pull into the lot off 31, nab her and be gone... never slept well till she got home...

They probably didn't begin to investigate until Saturday and, hopefully, they were able to pull up some video or camera shot of the perp.

I'm worried it was at the border though as no one would have been looking out for the van before he could cross the border.* Maybe it was a local camera but you'd think they'd have to have a license plate or something to get any real information about the guy. Plus, what are the odds the perp drives his own car when setting out to abduct a girl. Could they have traced a rental car?

It seems authorities know more than they usually do though.

*But then, once in Canada, what does he do about the car? It seems if you stay with the same car, you're going to get caught. Just thinking.

They've determined it's a stolen car? Maybe? But don't know the identity of the person who stole it so they're looking for the car. No license plate number though, right?

Like the white vans from other cases, silver/gray vans are a dime a dozen. Ugh!

LE must have more info about the perp's identity - maybe someone they've had on radar? (I hope, I hope, I hope)

From what I read on the FBI site, (should know this by now!), they get involved when a child of tender years goes missing. It's unusual for the FBI to be involved this soon when a woman goes missing.

Considering the number of young females who seem to be disappearing right out of regular life activities, could this guy be on their cyber related radar?

With the Feds involved combined with local PD I feel confident they have pulled up every Town and Country silver mini van within a 100 mile radius and quickly ruling people out.

Things are a bit quiet right now as far as releasing info to the media, hopefully that's a sign they are closing in.

He had over 8-12 hours, no?

Was this guitar place open? I wonder if someone thought the van was suspicious enough to purposely park and watch it or if they were going to the guitar shop in the first place.

Her last transaction was just before 11pm, and the police were alerted at 11:15pm, so I think he only had a short time before police were looking for him/his van. :twocents:

Such pretty eyes - the bluest of blue. I'm praying so hard for Jessica.
This is again so terrible.

Authorities haven't given any indication who they think the perp is. Local versus non local.

I used to assume it was someone related to the person due to statistics. Not any more, as three times I've been wrong. Little Jessica Ridgeway, the woman in Oregon (the neighbor killed her - so, somewhat related) and Mickey Shunick. Now, I'm noticing what seem to be stranger abductions. So many of the missing women haven't been found todate.

But you need to show ID ( in fact, a passport now..or birth certificate and picture ID ) to cross into/ out of Canada.. since she left her purse etc at the store, she would be stopped at the border... lots of remote areas of the state to worry about, and much closer...

I'm pretty sure they are not in the local area. (meaning Jessica and whoever took her) he probably grabbed her and then took off for who knows where, knowing the police would be looking for his van.

  • #175
I'm inclined to think it is a local. Someone who has seen her, someone that has been to the store that has cased it enough to know no cameras. Someone that knows the station itself is right off the hwy and isn't surrounded by any other businesses other than across the rd.

Someone that knows when the store closes and someone that knows she works alone on certain late shifts.

With such a small window of opportunity, I feel like this perp knew what he was doing. I don't feel like this was a spur of the moment action by someone just passing by. I also think whoever did this knew there were no cameras - either a current or former employee or someone who checked it out in advance.

He'd be taking a big risk then, true. I don't want to say more at this time about what could have happened between point A and point B.

It's the early FBI involvement that peaked my interest and caused me to think about the proximity to Canada.

My deepest hope is that they're onto some kind of undercover cyber clues. If they are, they'd better start educating our young people about all the dangers of the possibility of strangers knowing your next move. Try to tell a young person that and you get the eyeroll. Same with the phone to the head thing and if it could cause brain tumors in the future. Very concerning imo.

Well, if someone like that lives in the area, LE may suspect a specific person. If a man is 30 to 40 years of age with broad shoulders, :scared:, this isn't his first rodeo.

Did the observer call 911? She said she witnessed a struggle. Or did she come forward after hearing the news?

I agree. LE spent a good part of yesterday out ruling the four men who are probably closest to her. That took time but they always investigate in that order - people closest first. In the meantime, the perp could be six states away or in another country.

You think, in this case, LE began looking before midnight? Well, that would be a first. Unfortunately they didn't find the van or Jessica even with a head start.

I may be wrong, but I don't think they began looking any earlier than Saturday afternoon.

I'm wrong a lot but not every time. Anyway, I don't give a carp about that, I just hope she's found and am offering any ideas I can think of - not with any purpose other than to think more broadly. I'm too aware of all the missing women, especially in the eastern region of the US.
