50 year old John McKinney was found murdered at his art gallery The Birmingham Art Gallery at 1025 Hayes (building no longer there) Birmingham. He'd been beaten and shot once in the head.

McKinney was married (Yvonne) with two teenage children. He volunteered at the Bloomfield Hills Nursing Center as a chaplain for patients there. McKinney was ordained by the Christian temple association, a nondenominational religious organization based in Pontiac Michigan.

While Birmingham is an upscale community in Oakland County (north of Detroit) there was a series of high profile murders starting with the slaying of teenager Sheila Srock in 1976, the disappearance of Timothy King in March 1977 and culminating with McKinney's murder.

There are very few stories online about his murder. I pulled this information from an online (paid) news archive and from Daily Tribune stories on Microfilm at the Royal Oak public library.
