Dowan Knighton is charged with the mutilation of a dead body, concealing the death of an individual and tampering with evidence.

According to police, the body of Kayla Pierce, 29, of Livingston County, was found on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. in Detroit. The specific location of where the body was found has not yet been released.

Man pleads guilty to mutilating body of missing Livingston County woman found dead in Detroit

A Detroit man accused of trying to hide the death of a Livingston County woman who was found dead four months after going missing has pleaded guilty.

Dowan Seyoum Knighten, 48, pleaded guilty, June 29, to one felony count of mutilation of a dead body in connection with the discovery of Kayla Lynn Pierce who was found dead behind a home in Detroit in February, court records show.

An autopsy performed by the Wayne County Medical Examiner showed Pierce had died of fentanyl and methamphetamine toxicity, records show.

Knighten is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 3 before Wayne County Circuit Judge Darnella Williams-Claybourne.

His two additional felony counts of concealing the death of an individual and tampering with evidence were dismissed as part of his guilty plea.

Mutilation of a dead body is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
