Found Deceased MI - Kristin Gromoske, 17, Menominee, 8 Nov 2019

unfortunately i don’t think we have answers to any of those questions. A lot of stuff I think isn’t being released and you’d think some of those details are important enough that they should release them to help find her. Her mom, grandpa, & grandma all have their Facebook posts (anything related to Kristin at least) set to public. I noticed one of grandmas posts grandma replied to a commenter asking for an update that police had leads. But that was 4 days ago.. she replied to someone else who had heard Kristin was found, that NO she has not been found, she was missing 6 days now (at the time of her response) & that she’s been without her meds for 6 days. No idea how relevant that is, because of the lack of information being released. Hopefully tomorrow they will have some sort of update. I have not heard of a single search or even of anyone asking for volunteers to help hand out flyers or anything of the sort. Just asking to share Facebook posts. Bizarre.

That still leaves open the possibility that she is suicidal, that she left voluntarily on foot at 7:15PM Nov 8, had a bag of groceries from a shop 30 minutes away near a bridge at 8:04AM Nov 9, and claimed that she doesn't know where she is. She then turned off her phone.

Has anyone searched the water downstream for a body?

I live in the woods, so everything is a half hour away. Have lived here for almost 30 yrs. I bet there are places if I was dropped off there, that I wouldn't know where I was. And I drive. Teens are really good at zoning out in the car- and even if they look around, their perspective is different as a disinterested passenger, not a driver. Maybe her parents, etc never drove over that way either?

What I don't understand is why she did not name the store that is right there.

I'm thinking that she was not thinking properly if she said that she didn't know where she was - drugs/alcohol, suicidal - something interfering with her ability to communicate her location.

I have not heard a single person mention a search. I drive from marinette down through Menominee via first street almost every single day; usually twice a day. The way back to marinette from Menominee i almost always take the interstate bridge. I have not noticed any activity near either body of water/bridge.
im not sure why I never even thought of her being suicidal as a possibility—my mind jumped right to runaway gets mixed up with some bad people and shes now a human trafficking statistic—but now that you mention it, I literally cannot believe no one is looking locally!!!! The only explanation i can think of is they know SOMETHING that is being kept very quiet that tells them she is no longer in marinette/Menominee/peshtigo area.

Yes i agree, if she was in the country I could see her possibly not knowing where she was. But being in ‘town’ it’s so small, everything’s 5 minutes away if you’re in town and going somewhere in town (marinette or Menominee), I don’t think she truly didn’t know where she was unless she was impaired, having a medical emergency, being blindfolded, or already out of the cities of marinette/Menominee.

Absolutely....

This is the only way it makes sense to me.

Thanks- obviously I'm not local. There are so many neighborhoods here, if someone dropped me off in one where I don't know anyone living/never been, I would have no clue. Or they dropped me in a city north or south- same. All retail here is in one area-not like many places

Menominee teen girl still missing

According to Gromoske’s mother, Diane St. Martin, Gromoske left their apartment voluntarily Nov. 8 at 7:15 p.m. She said her daughter was last seen at Stateline Mini Mart in Marinette between 7 and 8 a.m. Saturday. “She was dropped off and started walking north toward the Interstate Bridge. Then her phone either died or was turned off shortly after that, because the last time it was pinged to be active was at 8:04 a.m. After that, there’s been nothing from her phone,” she said.

St. Martin said police seem pretty certain Gromoske didn’t cross the bridge. “There are cameras on the Interstate Bridge, and the cameras didn’t see her walking on the bridge, so she maybe went under the bridge, which from there, there are many places you could go,” she said.

She said the police are still waiting on historical phone records prior to the last time she was seen to try to find content of Gromoske’s calls and messages. “Right now all they have are GPS locations and dates and times of pings and activity, but they don’t have the content, so they’re working on trying to recover content,” she said.

She said the police haven’t had any reason yet to look outside of the area. “There were some possible sightings in the area, but they were all confirmed to not be her,” she said.
Bbm
Some details I don’t remember having seen. I don’t know why they’d think she’d go under the bridge or what many places she could have gone from there unless they just mean possibilities would be north south east or west. There’s a laundry mat connected to a grocery store kind of next to the bridge underneath where it passes over the water. Otherwise it’s Just factories that I can think of.

MOO, but I wish they would give some insight to her state of mind when she left. Did she seem normal, tell mom she was just going to walk down to the sub shoppe and meet up with friends? Or did her and mom get in an argument, where she reacted like a typical 17 year old girl and left to go for a run to blow off steam, or was their an argument that she stormed off from, more than just teen angst? It doesn’t matter why she left, but knowing her state of mind could help find her. If she said she was meeting a friend, and this friend knows nothing about it, I could see why it’s been implied she may have met up with someone she met online. If she had a huge argument with her mom and and said some things before taking off, I’d be more concerned with the possibility of her being suicidal. I’m sure police know what her state of mind was when she left home, but it just doesn’t make sense that no one seems to be DOING anything to find her.

Absence of search doesn't mean much. She is 17 years old, her friends must be focused on school and family. If none of them were with her on Nov 8, then none will feel driven to search. Also, not everyone can pull together a community overnight, especially when the search area is under the interstate bridge.

However, if people who know her think she may have wandered off intentionally, no one will search. They'll wait for a body to turn up.

I think someone should search downstream of the bridge that she didn't cross.

Very true. We have a very close-knit community that usually really pulls together whether it is someone diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, a house burning down, a bad car accident, etc. And her grandpa owns the local bike shop, and her grandma was one of the ‘main’ doctors nurse for years and years. The community knows and loves them, so if they wanted a search, I feel certain the community would rally for them. And sadly, I think you are right, someone should search downstream. The fisherman that I mentioned in an earlier post who recently drowned rwasn’t found for quite some time, and not very close to where the boat capsized. The other man, who survived, was rescued near the interstate bridge.

There's a comment about her medication. Is there any information about what medications she was taking, if any, and why?

Her family is looking to find her and doing everything they can think of to get help. We're talking about it. That's something.

Although suicide is on the table, so is the possibility that she went out with someone she met online, had a long evening, stopped to get snacks in the morning, she made a phone call and poof.

Someone posted water depth upthread and it didn't seem like a very deep river. Is it fast flowing?

I have not seen or heard any specifics as far as what the medication may be.

It can be depending on the amount of rain. We had a lot of rain over the summer and early fall. Days and days on end. But it has slowed down, and the past few weeks it’s been snow not rain. Let me see if i can find what the conditions are now.

Not great, but best I could find: The Outdoor Report (November 15, 2019)
Updated 11/15/19
Near Marinette, some of the area launches had their docks removed this week as cold weather has started. Most fishing pressures were seen on the Menominee River from the Highway 41 bridge upstream to the dam. Shore fishing and fishing off Hattie Street Bridge were popular as anglers were searching for whitefish, walleye and brown trout by using jigs with crawlers or minnows. Overall the whitefish bite was good this week with catches of two to five fish reported over two hours. Water temperatures were in the mid-30s by the end of the week.

Ice has formed on the lower Menominee River, making it inaccessible to boats. Some open water remained immediately below the Hattie Street walkway for hardy anglers looking to catch whitefish or trout.
Doesn’t give any info on depth/current conditions unfortunately. Still digging.

WI lake link forum for fishermen most recent posts are about 2 months old, so take that for what it’s worth, they are saying current is strong. Depth not mentioned. IMO

If you could find water depth and flow rate, or post a link that may have the info, please do. It the river runs fast but is only 4 feet deep, that's quite different than a river that is 30 feet deep and runs cold at the bottom.

If she was suicidal, the bridge is a no brainer.
