The carrying of the blanket seemed odd to me. It's bulky enough it would make hiking with it difficult, and there are lots of better things to have for warmth. Was she a yoga enthusiast? I could see setting up the blanket on the ground to do some yoga and enjoy nature, but that's just an idea.

This is local to me. Very small town/rural area. The news is reporting it as a blanket, but the family has stated it is a bag she is carrying. The Darnton Family Nature Preserve she was parked at, and seen on the trail cam just outside of the nature preserve, is a pretty small area; less than one square mile and has roads on all sides with houses. It has a creek that runs through it which can be pretty swampy, and some areas of dense woods, but if you walked in one direction for 10 minutes you'd find yourself out in a clearing, or at a road. The Michigan State Police had dogs looking for her yesterday at the preserve, although one person thought they might have seen her walking down a road about 3 miles east of the nature preserve yesterday, so she might be on the move. :(

I live in Michigan, and there was a lot of buzz about aurora/Northern Lights activity over the weekend. I wonder if she was heading out into the nature preserve in the hopes of seeing the lights that evening?

Oh shoot! I don't know the family personally. I was only conversing through Facebook so I don't think I qualify to be an insider poster and they don't verify locals anymore. I'll edit my post so I'm not breaking the TOS.

Also, I don't know why it says I'm a new member. I've been around since the Jodi Arias trial, mostly as a lurker lol But thanks for the warm welcome anyway! :)

That makes sense. I wondered why she would start a hiking trip at 6pm with only a blanket and wearing a Hoodie and leggings.

The Preserve looks pretty small. Maybe it was a place she hiked often and did not plan to be out there long.

Search crews may already be out this morning. She’s vulnerable. I hope she isn’t taken advantage of.

What makes her especially vulnerable?
Lacie’s sister Danielle Ford said the family thinks Lacie might not even be out in the woods anymore.

“The place that dogs hit the most was on Peck Road. So, we're not sure if she was possibly picked up in a vehicle or if she continued walking from there,” Danielle said. “Now we're trying to broaden our search and make sure that she isn't still out here because she has for sure been out here since at least Friday.”

Danielle said Lacie is known for going on hikes by herself, more so lately as she has been dealing with some mental health issues.

“She has gone back and going through some stuff where it's hard for her and she just she wants to be alone a lot,” Danielle said. “You know she wants to and it's not uncommon for her to go hiking by herself. She does it all the time. But she always brings her phone and she always comes home.”

Search Continues for 33-Year-Old Woman in Charlevoix County - 9 & 10 News
[...]

Castle’s sister, DF, said it’s not uncommon for her to spend time by herself, but this is a very different situation.

“She’s had times where she would stay somewhere overnight just to kind of get away but we always know where she is though,” said DF. “She might stay at my mom’s for the night just to try and get away, but no never for a long period of time.”

[...]

“We ended up with 18 specially trained search dogs and I believe they searched, and I’m not positive on how many acres, but hundreds of acres they searched and they felt confident that she was not in the area anymore,” said Ford.

Castle has been going through a tough time in her life, and it’s unclear whether or not she disappeared on purpose.

“Even talking to the sheriff we feel like we’re kind of–it’s kind of a guessing game of what’s going on or where she’s going or what her intentions are,” said DF.

Reward set for missing woman (petoskeynews.com)
A $1,500 reward is being offered for anyone who can provide information leading to the whereabouts of missing East Jordan woman, Lacie Castle, who vanished last Thursday near East Jordan’s Behling Road (as of the date of this newspaper's publication she is still missing).

[...]

Her abandoned car was found at the Darnton Family Nature Preserve parking lot on Friday, a day after she left her family home telling husband, AC, she was going to work out at the gym, according to her sister DF.

According to Ford, AC reported Castle missing on Friday, Nov. 5.

[...]

“The last scent the dogs picked up was on Peck Road and then it pretty much disappeared," said DF.

"There is a possibility that she got picked up or that she turned around at that point," she said.

According to Ford, the sheriff's forensics team went through Castle's cell phone — which was left in her car along with her wallet — and there were no messages or calls the day she disappeared indicated she was planning to leave the area or was mentally depressed.

[...]

Darnton Family Nature Preserve is the headquarters for the volunteer search. For anyone that wants to help join the search, volunteers are running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Castle is an experienced hiker, according to Ford, but "always stays on the trail" and "always takes her phone with her."

Her sister also indicated that Castle was going through some "issues" that may have something to do with her disappearance, but did not specify more on the subject.

Ford noted there is a possibility that Castle is hiding.
