Jahleel Hoskins to stand trial for Grand Rapids' missing mom's murder

Jahleel Hoskins will stand trial for the murder of Latrice Maze, a mother of five who went missing from her Grand Rapids home, a judge determined today.

Maze's body has not been found and authorities believe it was incinerated.

Koncki contends Hoskins believed that Maze was going to tell authorities about his role in an assault case in which he is charged and that led to the fatal event.

Schaefer ruled the evidence was sufficient for Hoskins to face felony charges of open murder in Kent County Circuit Court.

Grandmother’s cooperation leads to light sentence for perjury regarding alleged murder of Latrice Maze

A 40-year-old grandmother and relative of alleged killer Jahleel Hoskins has avoided the potential of 15 years in prison for lying under oath during the investigation into the slaying of missing mother Latrice Maze.

After spending two months in the Kent County Jail, Tashara Brown agreed to testify truthfully in the trial of Hoskins, who is charged with the murder of Maze, his girlfriend who went missing in March and is presumed dead.

Accused murderer guilty of assault, still faces trial in slaying of young mother

A jury has found Jahleel Hoskins guilty of stabbing a man in February, a crime that police say provided the motive for the murder one month later of a mother of five.

Hoskins, 26, will spend at least 25 years in prison after he was convicted on Friday in Kent County Circuit Court for stabbing Kenneth Harris after a fight in the parking lot of the Elks Lodge on Linden Avenue on Feb. 19. He was also convicted of perjury for lying under oath about his whereabouts on the night of the assault.

Hoskins will be sentenced on Nov. 4. He is slated to return to the courtroom one month later to face trial for the murder of Latrice Maze, who went missing on March 19.

Courtroom erupts as Grand Rapids man who murdered young mother is dragged away

The tragic drama surrounding the murder of Latrice Maze, a mother of five, only intensified Monday when the man convicted of killing her violently erupted in the courtroom upon learning his sentence.

[snip]

But when Hoskins was handed a 50-to-100-year prison term, the handcuffed man threw the podium toward the bench of Kent County Circuit Court Judge James Robert Redford and lumbered forward until court deputies dragged him from the courtroom with his eyes bugging out in fury.

[snip]

The events of the sentencing followed by a few weeks the equally dramatic, if less violent, actions of Hoskins who halted his trial on Dec. 11 by pleading to second-degree murder in the midst of testimony.

i still wish they would find her, i know it's probably almost impossible --- it's just horrible all around. At least her and her family have justice---now he can throw all the tantrums in wants and they won't have to hear about him anymore (hopefully)

<<On May 4, 2013, Latrice's boyfriend was arrested and charged with her murder. According to police, Hoskins killed Latrice within hours after the argument. He then wrapped her body in a sheet, placed her body into a trash bag, and threw the bag into a dumpster at the Peppercon Apartments in Wyoming.>>
