Feb. 28, 1975:Lorraine June Locke's mother, Mary, leaves for a PTA meeting at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School at 8 p.m., leaving the 15-year-old behind at home alone in the 800 block of 10th street.

By 10 p.m. the same night, Lorraine was discovered by her brother lying on the bathroom floor, stabbed to death. Someone had used a knife from a kitchen drawer and stabbed her in the heart, and left the knife stuffed in a couch cushion in the living room. Nothing was stolen or disturbed from the home, and there was no sign of forced entry.

Police were never able to make any arrests, even after following up hundreds of leads and interviewing dozens of potential suspects, or anyone who might have been able to tell detectives anything. The strongest leads still went nowhere. There was a 17 year old neighbor boy who had a strong crush on Lorraine. At least one witness seemed to remember he had seen him on the porch of the house before she was murdered.

Just weeks later, there would be another unsolved murder where Janis Stevens, a 38 year old woman who was home alone was stabbed to death just a few blocks away. The two seemed to have nothing in common, save for their murders? Could it have been the work of a serial killer? Why did they stop as sudden as they started?

No suspects were ever named in this still unsolved Port Huron murder. I’ve read on a couple Facebook posts that a family member stating they know who did it but is in jail on other charges and will not admit to this murder.
