GUILTY MI - Melissa Mitin charged in death of newborn, Okemos, Dec 2013

Found it. It was on the other thread about this case http://www.freep.com/story/news/loc...itin-meridian-township-missing-baby/22473309/
Apologies- I don't know where I got the info that the father was from the Middle East - I swear I read it somewhere but now cannot find it. [emoji16] I also can only find info in the missing discussion that says Melissa & father met at MSU & it is know who the sweet baby girl's father was - who has passed, but I'm not sure it is know who the father is of the missing baby boy.
Again apologies for my crazy post that has no MSM to back it up. [emoji16] I'm going back to just quietly reading & thinking...

The thing I find interesting is that both of her parents - and her sibling are very well educated. She herself was attending MSU. This isn't a "dumb" family

The woman supposedly hid the pregnancy but she then placed the baby in the trash where her mother says she "found" it. Does anybody else find that hard to believe?

Then, her attorney says she can't remember where the baby is because she is mentally disturbed yet she is a master's degree student.

I also do not understand the dynamics of this situation.

Her parents were not aware of her second pregnancy, she hid it from them.

But the court knew it, so how could they not know. Unless they never went to court. I would not want someone in my house that had killed a newborn without all the info I could find.

October 2015:

The trial was supposed to get underway in November, but the prosecuting attorney asked to postpone it, because police say they've found new evidence...

Mitin is charged with killing her newborn daughter and hiding the body during the December 2013 ice storm.

She was out of jail on bond when she gave birth to a second child, a boy who's still missing...

Mitin hasn't been charged for the boy's disappearance.

October 2015:

Authorities say they have circumstantial evidence that a child born to Melissa Mitin after she had been charged with murdering her first child also is dead...

Mitin’s trial in the murder case is on hold while police and prosecutors await the results of laboratory tests on blood stains found at Mitin’s home, the document says.

An Okemos woman charged with murder in the death of her first baby left her second newborn in a dumpster after giving birth while free on bond.

Prosecutors say Mitin killed her newborn daughter in 2013 by putting her face-down into a wastebasket while she and her family were staying at a friend’s home.

She was charged in that death in May 2014. Three months later, she was pregnant again, unbeknownst to authorities handling the murder case. That pregnancy was publicly revealed during a hearing in January 2015. The second infant — a boy — has not been found.

There haven't been charges related to Mitin's second baby because proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the child was born alive and that Mitin caused its death could complicate the charges related to the first baby.

Why?
Just why?
She clearly had to know about Safe Haven Laws after the first one.
Why couldn't she just hand over the baby anonymously?
I don't think I can think of another case where this has happened again after the first was discovered.
Unbelievable.

Authorities say they believe a Lansing-area woman whose baby boy is missing and presumed dead left the child in a dumpster in late 2014 while free on bond after being charged in the 2013 death of her baby daughter.

The Lansing State Journal says details of how authorities believe 26-year-old Melissa Mitin of Okemos disposed of the boy’s body were revealed in a recent motion from prosecutors.

I am not one to tell a woman what she can do with her own body but please give this woman some kind of contraceptions. She might even benefit from a basic sex ed course.
