TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- A 22-year-old woman's body was found in a van submerged in the Boardman River, police said.

Traverse City police say the death is being treated as suspicious.
The woman has been identified as Morgan Victoria Fawn Elmer of Traverse City and formerly of Bellevue.
Police said a fisherman noticed the submerged vehicle about 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 and called police. The light-colored van was found about 100 feet off the Lot D boat launch.

Police: Man was with Elmer 10 hours before her body was found

TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities have made contact with a "person of interest" who was with Morgan Victoria Fawn Elmer in the hours before her body was found in a sunken van.

Traverse City police detectives interviewed a man who was with Elmer — 22 of Traverse City, formerly of Bellevue — in the Boardman River boat launch parking lot at about midnight last Monday, just 10 hours before a fisherman spotted the van underwater Tuesday, said police Capt. Keith Gillis.

"We're following up on (his) statements," Gillis said. "It narrows the time frame a bit."

Detectives previously spoke with someone who had last seen Elmer at 4 p.m. Monday.

[h=1]UPDATE: Friends remember Elmer as 'beautiful soul'[/h]
Christian Gilbert, a friend and former roommate, was devastated when he heard the news of the 22-year-old's death on social media.

"I met her when she was about 20, she was a millennial but to be that young and grow up in these times — she was just so mature," he said.
Gilbert said Elmer moved to Traverse City about two years ago and the pair became friends when neither of them had family or close friends nearby.

Stephanie Pierce, Gilbert's wife, said Elmer loved music and the trio would frequent Union Street Station when bands performed and dance. Gilbert and Pierce have since moved to Illinois.

"Morgan was super into music, she liked rock but then again she liked everything, she would go from Nirvana to Biggie Smalls," she said.
Elmer was also interested in fashion and makeup, and would often dye her hair different colors "every other week," Pierce said.
"One day it would be green and the next it would be blue," she said. "She was this style queen."

Sending condolences to Morgan's family, and friends.

:rose:Another beautiful soul, taken way too soon.:rose:

From Gardener's last link:
"Elmer was found in the back seat of the vehicle"
"Investigators found needles and spoons but no drugs"
"The van is registered to a man who lives at the Grand Traverse Motel"

Perhaps doing drugs in the van with the man around midnight, she OD'd, and he panicked thinking his DNA is in the van so he dumped it?

And her book was called "Weighing Fat: the life of a Bulimic Teenager."
