Bodies found in NYC rivers, Queens park, NYPD says

Four bodies were found in city waters in three days, and a fifth was discovered in a marshy area of a Queens park, police said.

The body of a man in his 30s was found in the Harlem River, near 135th Street, at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Hours later, at about 4:20 p.m., the body of a woman in her 20s was pulled from the East River near Pier 16 in lower Manhattan.

Both were pronounced dead at the scenes and their identifications were pending, cops said.

On Tuesday, a body was found floating in the Hudson River near Battery Park at about 7:45 a.m. It was badly decomposed and could not immediately be identified, police said.

A fourth body, of a man in his 30s, was pulled from the water near the Mill Basin Bridge in Brooklyn at about 9:25 a.m. Monday, police said.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death in all the cases, and the investigations are ongoing.

Another body, of a man believed to be in his 20s, was found by someone hiking in Kissena Park, near 161st Street, in East Flushing on Tuesday. The man had trauma to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Thanks for the thread CV. I saw this earlier but didn't know if I should make a thread. It sounds like some of them had ID, and LE is just waiting for positive identification/notification of family to release the info. Hope they will all be ID'd swiftly.

Teen found suffocated in Queens marsh left his house against mother's wish
[...]
The teen was found with injuries to his head and his pants pulled down. An autopsy revealed that Peralta was asphyxiated.
Authorities identified the victim and declared his death a homicide Friday.
[...]
His parents said another student's mother told them she had heard that three classmates had threatened to kill Peralta.
"They were bad friends," the victim's father said. "I don't know who but they wanted to kill him."
No arrests have been made.
Cops have spent the last several days scouring the streets around Kissena Park looking for surveillance video that might show Peralta entering the park.
They were also trying to piece together the teen's whereabouts before he died.
Several people, including Peralta's girlfriend, posted anguished messages on Peralta's Facebook page after learning about his killing.
"You were very young, you are missed a lot," she wrote. "We will find those culpable."
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

A few years back, a detective explained that around this time of year, you will hear of a lot of bodies being found in the water due to spring thaw :(

Kissena Park has always been a dumping ground. Very sad to hear of this young man's life cut so short.
