GUILTY MI - Pamela Prpich, 32, Gibraltar, 12 Aug 2011

I would guess removing the tattoo's would have to do with preventing identification of the body. But then why leave it so close to where she was living? Makes me wonder if the perp does not have a car?

"We found things that led us to believe it's her," said Gibraltar Police Chief Ray Canterbury.
Pair of flip-flops and cigarette case found in the area. So if those items belonged to Pamela, that would indicate she was in the area before disappearing? Perhaps she and the friend who were visiting that night, left the house for some privacy. I wonder if that friend has any way to prove when he left her, Pamela was alive and well that night.

The suitcase was nestled in the tall grasses of the waterway leading to Lake Erie.

Her mother made a number of calls to her daughter, but no one answered.

“I knew something was wrong when I couldn’t get a hold of her by Saturday night,” Cheryl Prpich said.

She said the only time Pam Prpich turned her phone off was when she was with her boyfriend.

At this time of year does Gibraltar Creek have a current?

I don't recall reading if they have found her cell phone?

The victim is likely Pamela Prpich, who went missing Aug. 12 from Bella Vista Condominiums along West Jefferson near Gibraltar Road, where she was living with her mother.

In the following article it say's more or less that her brother brought the articles found to their mother who identified the items (flip flops and cigs) as belonging to his sister. He then went back and retrieve the suitcase, I take it from the water and when he opened it he found the remains of her body.

Seems strange he wouldn't have just gathered up the suitcase at the same time as the flip flops. I just hope he didn't compromise any evidence by taking the items to show the mother or opening the suitcase himself. He should have probably called LE to report finding the items first and let them process the items. It would also have saved him from having the sight of his sisters dismembered body in that suitcase etched in his mind for the rest of his life also.

Thursday afternoon, her brother was looking for traces of his sister along the banks of the creek near her condominium complex. He saw a canoeist and asked him to help look for anything unusual.

"The guy in the canoe pointed to a suitcase," Prpich said. "Didn't think anything of it, just thought it was some trash in the creek, but then he said there was some flip flops and whatnot … just other items," Prpich said.

His mother identified the items as belonging to his sister and he returned to get the suitcase.

"Grabbed it out of the creek, dragged it to shore and just opened it," Prpich told FOX 2's Bill Gallagher. "You always hear about it, but you never think it's going to happen to you."

The first article in the first post has been changed from 'Purpitch' to 'Prpich' as it has the spelling in subsequent articles, so I've alerted and asked the mods to change the spelling to 'Prpich' in the title and first post.

Very little in the media about this case. DNA results should be back today or tomorrow?

So what is the significances of removing the tattoo's? (plural meaning more than one) Did the killer think she would not be identifiable without the tattoo's or did the tattoo's have meaning to the killer?

I guess the big question might be is what the tattoo's that were removed meant to Pamela. Did she have them done at the request of someone else, possibly the old boyfriend. Did her and someone else (the old boyfriend) have matching tattoo's or did Pamela and the old boyfriend maybe go together to get her tattoo's or did they both receive tattoo's at the same time.

I can't just see someone that did not know Pamela being the killer removing her tattoo's. Who ever did this crime was very mad at her.

This happened not far from my home. I am wondering about the man she was talking to the night before she went missing. The article stated he came to her condo and they were talking and then her mother went to bed. I am assuming the police questioned this guy?? They are not releasing to much info lately.

As far as why the tattoos were removed. Perhapse it was so that the body could not be identified. I majored in Criminal Justice in college and I know that serial kills will keep items for "souvineers". For example, I think Jeffrey Dahmer kept skulls from his victims. Just a thought that maybe this person kept them. I don't mean to sound morbid but you never know. If this is a total stranger (since the police said they are not ruling out strangers) that did this, then I am going to kind of creeped out if there is killer on the loose in my area!

I am anxious to hear the DNA results.

Gibraltar victim's remains found in suspect's apartment

Police said additional remains of a victim whose partial body was found in a suitcase were discovered in a container in the suspect's Gibraltar apartment.

Gibraltar police Chief Ray Canterbury said the suspect, 52, admitted to dismembering the victim, Pam Prpich, 32, but did not confess to killing her. In fact, the chief said he can't even call the case a murder at this time.
"We can't say if it's a homicide," Chief Canterbury said. "We're hoping the medical examiner will determine a cause of death."

Police arrest 52-year-old Gibraltar man in connection to body found in suitcase

A 52-year-old man was arrested at about 6 p.m. Wednesday in connection with the discovery of a woman’s torso stuffed in a suitcase Aug. 18.

The man is a resident of Park Lane Apartments, near the residence of 32-year-old Pamela Prpich, who had been missing since Aug. 12.

(Snipped)

Police Chief Ray Canterbury said this morning that the man was seen on surveillance video doing some sort of “suspicious activity” investigators cannot go into detail about yet.

Police received a phone call yesterday that the suspect was again doing the same “suspicious activity,” he said.

(Snipped)

“He basically confessed in 30 seconds or so to dismembering her body,” Canterbury said.

(Snipped)

The suspect’s apartment appeared normal, nothing like a crime scene, according to Canterbury.

“There seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary,” he said. “No blood; nothing to lead to you to believe anything occurred.”

(Snipped)

The man told police where the rest of Prpich’s remains were.

“(The remains) were concealed,” Canterbury said. “You couldn’t smell any decomposing.”

The suspect had been interviewed by police during the investigation.
