Maybe he's the dealer or has 2 strikes. Is this a 3 strikes state? Regardless, dismemberment was not necessary. That is a sick person who could do such a thing.

Man admits hiding Gibraltar woman's body, denies killing

And when investigators went to the suspect's apartment to look for evidence around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, they found more of her body in a container stuffed in a closet.

"When we opened it — the smell," Gibraltar Police Chief Ray Canterbury said. "We said, 'This is the crime scene.'

"We went in there and the place was in good order. There was nothing out of place, and it didn't look like a body would be dismembered there at all."

Canterbury said the suspect, whom police have not named, is expected to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today at 33rd District Court in Woodhaven on charges determined by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Police still do not know the cause of death, and a Wayne County spokesman said the Medical Examiner's Office doesn't have enough of the body to perform an autopsy

Michael Prpich said he didn't know the suspect, but his sister had called the man the night she went missing.

The man often talked to himself, and after police found the suitcase, he rarely left the apartment, Kibler said.

The ME doesn't have enough to do an autopsy and he used to be a butcher. I wonder where the rest of her body is and hope it will be found.

That is so horrible! Her poor brother.

That is so horrible! Her poor brother.

I'm thinking they have her head, and from the waist down, but don't have her chest area with her heart and lungs.

It's so horrible. Poor poor girl, and her poor family. Hearing the details must be excruciating for them.

"The confession of his involvement was very short. I don't know exactly what it was but I know it was very short," said Chief Ray Canterbury with the Gibraltar Police Department.

The break in the case came from the next-door neighbor who told police the people across the hall moved out with suitcases.

One of those was apparently stolen by the man who lives in unit 4.

snip

Police say they had questioned the man twice, and confirmed the suitcase element.

He confessed, and said more remains would be found in his apartment.

They were in a sealed container in a closet. He was arrested.

The victim's twin brother said they checked Prpich's cell phone records online, and the man next door is the last call she made at midnight, last Friday.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. "Nobody deserved that".

Not sure what to take of her brothers statement.

"I hope the worst for them. I don't know if it's closure but it's as close as we're ever gonna get," said Michael Prpich.

Does her brother think more than one person was involved?

Sounds like it. I didn't catch the word "them". Thought he said "Him" but I could be wrong.

If he did say them it was probably a slip of the tongue. Could be LE told him someone else was involved. Makes sense due to Bommer being ill and on oxygen. He would have a hard time doing this alone. imo

I was right about the surveillance video being at the pharmacy.

Police came to question the suspect in custody after viewing surveillance video. They would not name the business, but Action News has learned it was the Sav Mor pharmacy nearby. Investigators said the suspect was acting strangely but would not specify the behavior, although a source tells Action News the man was buying bleach and other suspicious items. He was a regular customer.

Charges expected over the weekend in Gibraltar dismemberment case

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office has not yet received a warrant for the suspect who admitted to dismembering and disposing of a Gibraltar woman earlier this month.

The 52-year-old man, who police have not named, was detained by Gibraltar Police Wednesday afternoon and confessed to the criminal activity but not the murder of 32-year-old Pamela Prpich, whose torso was found by her brother in a suitcase floating in a creek near her condominium complex.

The Wayne County prosecutor has charged a 52-year-old man with mutilation of a dead body, more than a week after a woman's remains were found in a suitcase floating in a creek.

James Bommer of Gibraltar was also charged with obstruction of justice and being a repeat offender.

Gibraltar police say Bommer admitted dismembering the body but denied killing Prpich. Prosecutor Kym Worthy says the evidence tells another story.

Man Charged In Gibraltar Suitcase Muder
August 27, 2011 11:38 AM

“He’s dying. He has cancer… you know, he was on a lot of pills, but he drank,” said Prince. “If he drank too much he could be belligerent… but he wasn’t the kind of guy you couldn’t calm down. I just have a hard time gripping that he actually did that.”

Suspect tells police he dismembered Gibraltar neighbor but didn't kill her
Aug 27, 2011

"We don't know how she died, still," Canterbury said. "He's saying that they were doing drugs and she was just dead ... in a chair."

Canterbury said the man admitted to police that he cut up Pam Prpich's body, and directed officers to her torso stored in his bedroom closet.

snip

"We had 10 detectives or so and none of them would have said, 'Yeah, this is where she was killed,' " he said of how clean the closet was kept. "You would have looked in that closet and shut the door and said, 'She's not in here.' "

The suspect's 53-year-old brother said he believes his brother may have panicked. He said his brother is an ex-con who was adamant about not returning to prison.

"I think he was desperate," the suspect's brother said.

So what was in the suitcase?

So what was in the suitcase?

From reading the articles, I got the idea that it was her body from the waist down in the suitcase. I thought her head was what was in the container in the closet, and that her chest area with her heart and lungs was missing, preventing them from being able to do an autopsy.

Now I'm thinking same thing in the suitcase, but her torso (chest area w/heart/lungs) in the closet, and that it's her head that's missing, and that not having her brain prevents the autopsy.

Let me see if I can find the articles that made me think waist down. Maybe we could put together the info and then ask joypath if she has time to look at it and give us her thoughts.

ETA: Here's one of them, although this does say torso, I'm thinking lower torso - stomach:

Prpich’s torso, waist legs and an identification card were in the suitcase.

ETA again: I'm an idiot lol. I just realized that of course you can do an autopsy without heart, lungs, brain - skeletonized remains don't have those organs. I'm stumped on this one.
