It could be that she didn't actually have custody of her daughter so somebody else picked her up from school and didn't notice she was actually gone.

In Florida, Geraldine Thurman Hopson's obituary lists a deceased daughter called Patricia Pouncy.

Also in Florida, Marion O'Brien lists a daughter named Tracy Patricia Pouncy. This is notable bc this family was from Detroit, MI and they say Pouncy is from Eustis, MI.

I can find a lot of results of a Patricia Pouncy from Louisiana whose age seems to line up too but I'm not sure if it's the same.
