GUILTY MI - Patrick Mikes, 55, Troy, 27 July 2012

Troy —Police said Thursday they believe a Troy man reported missing last week was slain in his basement and his body has been disposed of by his killers.

I wonder if that was said by LE or if it's a typo...or if someone else was there...or if AM knows and is telling LE what went down.

In the same article it says: "Police said Andrew Mikes is cooperating with investigators and they fear for his safety should his older brother be released from jail."

Yet, AM was at his arraignment.

You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

Thank you. I don't know why some cases grab me, but I am so sad that this man's life has probably ended like this. I think he was probably a decent man who did the best he could raising children after his wife died and for a child(ren) to do this is just so sad to me.

The family lives in a lovely neighborhood, among the nicest of older subdivisions in Troy. Patrick, Jr. went to U of D High and is now at Notre Dame: He was given the opportunity for the best education possible. What on earth could have gone wrong to make this young man go off the deep end, if he is, indeed, the culprit? I guess that there are some things in life that we can never understand. :moo:

I have to agree that I really feel that there is more to this than what we are hearing about. I just can't see this young man, who by all accounts has been an upstanding, respectable human being thus far, suddenly losing it to the point of violently killing his father.

I am curious as to the younger brothers whereabouts during all of this. I'm assuming & hoping that he was not home during all of this.

Does anyone know who filed charges against Mikes Jr? Was it the 16yr old brother or the Dad? I haven't seen it mentioned.

Good questions, and I haven't seen mention of this yet. Since the older brother was away at college during the academic year, he probably has his own credit card(s), so why would he have used his brother's for movie tickets and dinner? Maybe the credit card company contacted the card owner to notify said person of fraudulent activity on the card.

Update from WDIV: ME says that it's doubtful that anyone could have survived the brutal attack that took place in the Mikes' basement. Mikes' typical biking attire was found in the house. Patrick, Jr. on surveillance video purchasing cleaning products. Younger brother is not a suspect but is answering questions and cooperating with LE. Trying to piece together an exact timeline of suspect's whereabouts to help locate the body.

Video should be available shortly: www.clickondetroit.com

Okay, at least younger brother is cooperative. Maybe he was just so stressed and exhausted he looked strange in the courtroom.

I was thinking maybe older brother's card(s) had been taken away for some sort of punishment?

Also wondering what his academic record looks like for the last few semesters at Notre Dame.

---Just saw on WXYZ-TV-Bond was posted for Junior, he is released. Also, that Junior had recently been "cut off" financially.

Ouch! No 21-year-old wants to be "punished" and lose privileges.

Patrick, Jr. has an academic scholarship, so he probably has to maintain a certain GPA to keep it. No reports about him performing poorly at ND.

It might get missed in my edited post--Junior is out of jail, bond was posted.

According to WXYZ-TV Junior had been "cut off" financially recently.

I wonder who posted that. If I'm not mistaken, that was a 50,000.00 cash bond.

There seems to be a lot of money involved here - was it from his wife's life insurance?

TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) - Sources tell 7 Action News that bond has been posted for 21-year-old Patrick Mikes Jr.

Troy Police are calling Mikes Jr . a suspect in his father's murder. And investigators say they have surveillance video of the Notre Dame student buying cleaning supplies at a local store Friday evening.

Yesterday there was talk about "family" raising the cash bond, so apparently the Mikes themselves were not the only well-to-do part of the family (maybe grandparents?).

I'll tell you what--they'd better keep him on a short leash because I could see him fleeing.

That Jr. was a flight risk was among the reasons for the high bond, so, yes, I'm sure that he will bolt if he has the chance. I doubt that he'll head back to the college campus ;)

Senior Mikes is an accountant and likely does well as do many folks living in Oakland County. Mikes attended Notre Dame and the University of Chicago, so I'm guessing that he comes from a well-to-do family. No mention of the late wife/mother having life insurance.

Technically, wouldn't it be dad's card that the 16 y/o had permission to use? I'm sure dad probably kept a pretty close eye on it if that was the case and figured out quickly that the other son had used it w/o permission.

Wonder who was paying for Notre Dame? Pretty expensive school, isn't it?

...Mikes is accused of using a credit card that didn't belong to him at Great Lakes Crossing on July 26.

Police said the card the 21-year-old used did not belong to his father. It was his younger brother's card...

I'm thinking maybe he used the credit card on purpose so he had an alibi, someone posted he had been cut off. Maybe he didn't have his own credit card anymore, so he takes his brother's to make sure there is proof of where he was. JMO
