Found Deceased MI - Randy Robert Day, 42, Garfield Township, 23 September 2018

They say Randy Robert Day is missing from his Garfield Township home on Boon Street.

He was last seen on September 23 around 7 p.m. He was last heard from the next morning.

Police say he may have been kayaking in the Bowers Harbor area on Monday afternoon.

Day is 42-years-old, 6 feet tall and it is not known what clothes he was wearing.

Deputies were able to locate his cell phone and backpack near Lee Point in Suttons Bay; the items were washed up on shore.

Further investigation revealed Day had gone kayaking from Bowers Harbor boat launch, which is where deputies found his truck.

This all comes after a kayak was found near Neahtawanta Point on Monday, which investigators have confirmed to be the one Day was using.

The search continues Friday morning.

Deputies Continue Searching for Missing Man

On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office will be continuing their search for day, using side scan sonar and underwater controlled vehicles.

Day was at an ATM in Traverse City around 12 p.m. Monday and two witnesses said they saw Day kayaking at Bowers Harbor around 12:30 p.m. that same day.

It is unknown at this point if Day was wearing a personal flotation device while out on the water.

Investigators said the Leelanau County sheriff's deputies were able locate Day's cell phone and backpack washed up on shore near Lee Point in Suttons Bay.

A kayak that was found Monday, September 24, near Neahtawanta Point was confirmed to be the one used by Day.

BREAKING: Body of Missing Man Found in West Grand Traverse Bay - 9 & 10 News

Crews have been searching for Randy Day since last Wednesday afternoon, a day after he was reported missing. Now police tell us they have found his body.

Divers from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office and Leelanau County located Day’s body around noon Wednesday.
