Michigan woman tried to use fake hitman website to kill ex-husband: cops

"A Michigan woman tried to have her ex-husband killed for $5,000 by contacting a fake hitman website, state police said.

Wendy Wein, 51, of South Rockwood, was arrested Friday after she visited a bogus website <modsnip> and completed a “service request form” requesting a consultation to help her with an “issue,” Michigan State Police said Tuesday."

The website is hilarious!

“Wein specified her ex-husband as the target of her problems,” police said in a news release. “The owner of the website contacted the Michigan State Police because he was concerned that Wein may be attempting to kill her husband.”

An undercover state trooper posing as a hitman then met with Wein in a parking lot in her hometown, police said.

You are right that the website is hilarious! It’s so clever. Read every word. I can’t believe anyone would think it is for real but...

Since launching the fake website in 2005, the owner of rentahitman told investigators he had been contacted numerous times by people requesting murders, school shootings and even a child abduction, state police said.

It said he made the website as part of a school project. I hope he got an A!

<modsnip> I would still like to give credit to the owner of the site for turning evidence over to LE that has caught several potential murderers before they had a chance to murder. Great work by him. Jmo

ADMIN NOTE:

As has been done in the past with other cases and various sites, Websleuths management chooses not to allow links to certain other websites on the board.

Obviously the rentahitman site is part of this case and of trial testimony. Tricia and I discussed this specific situation and the decision is that the site and its content can be discussed, but linking to it is not allowed. Stick with our usual approved sources (i.e. MSM, LE, scholarly articles ...).

Members may certainly refer to and discuss the content of the website as it relates to this case, just don't link to it. If members wish to read the actual site, they can find links in the already approved and linked articles.

Any questions regarding the above, please jump off any post and use the Report feature to ask.

Hope that clarifies.

A South Rockwood woman was sentenced 7 to 20 years in prison for using a website in an attempt to solicit the murder of her former husband.

Wendy Lynn Wein, 52, was charged with solicitation of murder, which is a life offense in Michigan, and using a computer to commit a crime which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Wein had no previous criminal record.

[...]

Wein went before 38th Circuit Court Judge Daniel S. White for sentencing on Jan. 13 with her attorney from Detroit, Vincent Haisha.

Haisha urged White to stay within the recommended sentence from the plea agreement reached, which capped the minimum sentenced at nine years in prison, stating that his client was what many would call, “a victim in life.”

“This (crime) was a manifestation of significant trauma ... she can be rehabilitated and can be someone who can be trusted to be in the community again,” said Haisha.
