LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced Friday criminal charges are being filed against former state representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.

Courser and Gamrat were expelled from the House during the summer of 2015 after it was revealed the two were having an affair. Moreover, Courser was accused of trying to cover up the affair with an elaborate story. His former aides said Courser enlisted their help in the cover-up.

LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat are expected to turn themselves in Tuesday on felony charges connected to a sex scandal.

Last year, Courser apologized for his affair with Gamrat, as a 90-minute recording was played for lawmakers in which he asked his staffer to concoct a bizarre cover-up story alleging he was a drug and addict who paid for sex with men.

Michigan House investigators determined both lawmakers had lied about their relationship and their knowledge of the cover-up...

Courser, Gamrat threaten to sue state House of Representatives

LANSING, Mich. - Documents filed last month with the State of Michigan Court of Claims could lead to a lawsuit on behalf of former state representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.

The document claims that the Republican controlled House “falsely imprisoned” and “falsely arrested” both Courser and Gamrat during the 16 hour Sept. 11 session last year. The session ended with Courser resigning and Gamrat being ousted in a House vote.

“It basically provided notice to state government that there’s a potential complaint coming in regards to the actions of the folks in government,” Courser said.

Courser did not confirm or deny whether he and Gamrat plan to sue the Michigan House of Representatives, but the notice preserves their right to do so...

Lansing — Former state Rep. Todd Courser filed Tuesday to run for Lapeer County prosecutor, attempting a political comeback while facing criminal charges for misconduct in office.

The Lapeer County Clerk’s Office confirmed Tuesday Courser had filed to run in the Republican primary against incumbent Prosecutor Tim Turkelson.

The tea party conservative Republican once criticized Turkelson for failing to prosecute Joe Gamrat — the husband of Courser’s paramour, former State Rep. Cindy Gamrat — who helped send anonymous text messages threatening to expose the extramarital affair if they didn’t resign from office.

Turkelson said he was surprised to learn of his new primary opponent, especially given Courser’s prolific self-promotion through campaign emails and social media...

LANSING, Mich. - A judge has dismissed charges against a former Michigan lawmaker while ordering another ex-legislator to stand trial after they were forced from office in a sex scandal.

Lansing District Judge Hugh Clarke Jr. ruled Tuesday there's not enough probable cause for tea party conservative Cindy Gamrat to face felony misconduct in office charges. But he said Republican former Rep. Todd Courser will go to trial on two of four counts.
