Bacon is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighs roughly 150 pounds.

He was last seen the evening of Friday, Dec. 27, at the Bavarian Inn — a family-oriented resort and hotel in Frankenmuth, according to officials.

Bacon was about to join his family at the pool around the time he disappeared.

“(He) was going to his car to get something and was coming back to the pool area to join his family. He never returned to his family at the pool,” McLenna said, adding that his car is still in the parking lot of the Bavarian Inn and “(his) cell phone is going straight to voice mail.”

He was last seen at 7:20 p.m., she said.

“He came about 6:40 p.m., went to the hotel room to change out of his shoes and slides, was going to meet our daughter down at the pool area. Said he had to move his car because he was on the further entrance from where their room was. From there, they have video showing him going to the fun center after leaving the hotel room, never coming back to his car. They don’t have any video showing he exited the building. However, there are exits without cameras,” McLenna said.

If he voluntarily went missing that would be an extremely traumatic thing to put your 2 teenage daughters through. Going with that theory, I would wonder if he has a history of drug use and/or any prior disappearances. Without more information, I'm not quite sure I'm leaning toward voluntarily leaving your car in a place you are not residing in and leaving your daughters/family with all these questions and only having the clothes on your back with you. I hope we have more to go on soon or that he is found safe.

The teenage daughters were there with their grandmother, Mr. Bacon and his wife (their mother) are divorced. So he was just meeting them there. I could see a possibility of him just having a change of heart for personal reasons about the trip but he wouldn't have left his vehicle behind, in my opinion. Police continue to search for Byron man missing out of Frankenmuth

And very little social media presence for him. The FB linked above has almost nothing posted. Wonder if he uses other names too?

A couple notes about Frankenmuth from a sort-of local:
1) Frankenmuth is a touristy place with a Bavarian theme. Maybe you'd call it locally touristy? I'd call it family friendly and it gets busy at Christmastime with various events and stores.
2) The main drag is the busiest place with most of the hotels and attractions. The particular hotel and waterpark where Mr. Bacon was last seen is NOT on the main drag. Its not far away, but the area is noticeably less busy and less populated, especially in the winter. There are several parks and sports parks nearby, lots of clear space.
3) There is a large river immediately behind the hotel. Not Mississippi large, but large enough to be suspicious under the circumstances. I would guess its not frozen, but cold and fast moving.

Update

In an update on Facebook, the Frankenmuth Police Department said there had been no activity on financial accounts and no confirmed sightings of Robert.

Police search the Cass River area in Lapeer County and say they are confident that Robert is not on land anywhere in the area. The Saginaw County Sheriff's Department's dive team searched an area river with their sonar boat, but they were unable to find him.

update
Bacon’s car was still parked in the Bavarian Inn parking lot on Wednesday, Jan. 1. McLenna said police did not find anything suspicious in the car, adding his keys, wallet, and phone are on him, but his phone has been off since Friday night.

As of 4 p.m. on Friday, the police department said the following points are the most up-to-date information:

  • No activity on financial accounts
  • No confirmed sightings
    • Tips submitted have not panned out as of Friday
  • As of last week, search efforts have focused on the Cass River and its banks. After a preliminary ground search conducted this week by the Lapeer County Search and Rescue Team, they are confident Bacon is not on land anywhere in the area.
  • On Thursday, the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department’s Dive Team conducted a search with their sonar boat. After a possible image was located by sonar, a diver was sent into the water but discovered the image was debris.

“He came about 6:40 p.m., went to the hotel room to change out of his shoes and slides, was going to meet our daughter down at the pool area. From there, they have video showing him going to the fun center after leaving the hotel room, never coming back to his car. They don’t have any video showing he exited the building. However, there are exits without cameras,” McLenna said.
