Search team finds body of missing Ogemaw Co. woman

The body of a missing Ogemaw County woman was discovered by a search team over the weekend.

CLARE Co., Mich. (WNEM) - The body of a missing Ogemaw County woman was discovered by a search team over the weekend.

The team located 34-year-old Sara Burns’ body on Jan. 28 in Leota.

“This closure to the family could not have happened without the help of the search and rescue teams, law enforcement agencies, family, friends, and the local community,” the Clare County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to her Facebook she is from Saint Helen, Michigan. She has two children - a boy and a girl - approx 9 and 4 years old. Lots of photos of the kids but none of Dad as far as I can tell. She posted in 2016 that she was in a relationship. She quit smoking in 2013. She works or worked at Walmart. <modsnip: unnecessary>

Her body was found .So sad Prayers for her family .

I really hope she is alright. I lived 30 mins from that area a year ago. It is very rural, lots of woods around and cell service is spotty. The area is very heavy with drugs. I saw that the Clare police had the van towed before actually investigating the scene first so unfortunately there's a good chance that evidence was missed.

On 01/28/23, the Clare County Sheriff's Office with assistance from outside agencies conducted a search operation in Leota, Michigan in efforts to locate Sara Burns. During the course of the search, members of a search team located the body of Sara, deceased. The Clare County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with immediate family in the hours and days following the discovery. Sheriff John S. Wilson along with the members of the Clare County Sheriff's Office offers it's condolences to Sara's family and friends.

Search crews from 16 agencies and organizations scoured the woods around Leota, where Burns' car was located, for the past two weeks before the discovery of her body. Several family members, friends and residents also assisted with the search.

Clare County Sheriff John S. Wilson said he was on regular contact with Burns' family after she was found dead. Authorities did not offer specific details about where her body was located or how she may have died.
