GUILTY MI - Stoni Blair, 13, & Stephen Berry, 9, found in Detroit freezer, 2012 & 2013

initial reports stated an adult female. Which tells me the 14 year old daughter was on top of the freezer. Reporters rushed to get the scoop out by deadlines and at the time they were reporting an adult female of small build can look very like a mature 14 year old developed female at first blush. Particularly a frozen one. MOO.

Then when LE removed the female they discovered the male child beneath and he was initially reported to be APPROXIMATELY 11 years old. Other news orgs ran with that number. We have since learned he was the 9 year old twin of the still living now 11 year old. I am not really surprise about the inaccuracies early on. It is difficult to gauge age when confronted with a year and two year old frozen corpses from simple visual examination.

per the live newcast linked above, there is no requirement for reporting of grades or curriculum of home schooled children unless they have special needs. These ones apparently did not. I have real issues with this aspect of many states' regs on home schooling. Far too easy to remove children from the radar of mandated reporters. MOO

I would venture to guess there was not much Home Schooling actually going on to report :(

The phone interview with the Great Aunt was interesting to hear.

More family interviews coming up next they said. I wonder who else is going to speak?

ETA: The Great Aunt who the surviving children are staying with stated both children knew their siblings were in dead and in the freezer :(

"We lost two of our beautiful children down here in the Martin Luther King Apartments because we don't want to pay attention or be nosy," said Yvette Whitfield, 52. "So this is a message I have for other communities: Be nosy, pay attention. They're children."

Amen!!! We should contribute to the well being of all children in our communities.

Frozen children's mother had shunned her family, relative says

Posted: Mar 25, 2015 10:38 PM EDTUpdated: Mar 25, 2015 10:40 PM EDT

......"The children's great aunt, who is a retired Detroit police child abuse investigator, is caring for the surviving siblings.

Angela Gordon caring for the surviving siblings said Michelle had shunned the family.

"She estranged herself from the family," Gordon said. "I had not seen her for two years and not spoken to her in about a year and a half."

For 26 years Angela Gordon was a successful child abuse investigator and an expert in detecting some of Detroit's worst cases of child abuse.

Were there any clues any signs she should have picked up on?

"Well, that's impossible when somebody estranges themself from you," Gordon said. "I would go to the home, I would knock on the door. I would bang on the door and got no response.

"I knew they were in there. She had those children to the point where they wouldn't open the door."

Relatives of one of the fathers praise him as being a "great dad"

"He's a great father," she said. "He wanted his kids, she just wouldn't give them to him. The fight wasn't probably in him to go."

FOX 2: "Did he have a relationship with Michelle?"

"No," Dorsey said. "Not since they broke up years and years ago. No. Because she was always trying to pick arguments and just wanted money from him.

"She just wanted money."

So apparently supporting/feeding one's children has NOTHING to do with "being a great father", and if the guy was paying child support he would have had the right to see his children.

I've been looking for a time here this morning also. Listened to local Channel 7 news this morning. No time has been mentioned that I can find.

Mitchelle Blair, 35, has been charged with four counts of first-degree child abuse, a 15-year felony; and one count of committing child abuse first-degree in the presence of another child, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, in connection with the deaths of 9-year-old Stephen Berry and 13-year-old Stoni Blair.

I'll post live stream link closer to time of arraignment.

Well they have to have an idea of when they went in based on bone age and teeth and such. I just can not believe for the life of me that no one reported these kids missing. Not their siblings or family or neighbors. If my child disappeared my whole neighborhood would realize he was missing.

Got it after several error notices. These charges are from 2012. Why was no one monitoring the home situation? No CPS involvement? The apartment looked nice - with a piano, too.

Defense attorney/s will request psych evaluation. I believe this woman is mentally disturbed. :moo:

Evidently, the mother shut others out and estranged herself from family. The children's father/s weren't allowed to see them, nor were grandmothers or other relatives. MB told neighbors that the "missing" children were staying with their aunt. Children were reportedly home-schooled so there was no accounting of their education. Mom kept them away from prying eyes. Much more to come. Stand by...

File Date:

This is also listed below the Charges:
