GUILTY MI - Stoni Blair, 13, & Stephen Berry, 9, found in Detroit freezer, 2012 & 2013

  • #281
The thing that gets me about Blair is that she could look at them every day, ten times a day, for two years. She doesnt need pictures because she knows what they looked like when she killed them as well. What amazes me is the thought process behind leaving the freezer. She didnt care that they would be found, which is the only reasonable conclusion she could have come to once she decided to leave the freezer. That these lovelies would be found.

MB might be channeling Casey Anthony: Some other dude did it. ;)

Of course he wants those things thrown out and he can certainly ask. It wont happen, that is for sure. He is going to have to do a lot of coaching between now and then to try and help her figure out how to try and convince a professional that she doesnt or didnt know right from wrong. When she torture murdered her two children and kept the other two in a constant state of terror.

This statement, however, fascinated me:

What are those difficulties? She doesnt want to talk about it or she does? Or she isnt remorseful?

I would really like him to clarify.

It's also going to be extremely difficult to ignore testimony from family members, the children's fathers, etc. to whom MB lied for at least two years concerning their whereabouts. Not to mention the fact that MB is no stranger to the courts, having attempted several times to get the dads to pay child support. Seems she was sane enough to use the court system to get the money to which she felt entitled - even when two of the children had been deceased for a while. Oh, what a tangled web!

It would have to be proved that she didnt know right from wrong when she waived her Miranda rights. It could be that they will go with some kind of drug/alcohol impairment that made her incapable of knowing. I would think the threshold would be pretty high on that one. She tried to justify their murders by indicating that they sexually abused one of the other children, right? Therefore making their murders more palatable? I know we all want her to be crazy because who in their right mind would do something like this. But really, she is a monster who hit upon an excellent solution for preventing any consequences for these murders, at least for a while. Dumping the bodies puts her at risk for them being found and it leading back to her. Keeping them in the apartment in a freezer ensures that she can continue to collect their money, rack up more child support and keep the other two in line. If they complained or resisted her torture of them, all she had to do was point to the freezer.

So really, it is a well thought out solution.

Detroit teacher tried to find, save girl found in freezer

By Rochelle Riley, Detroit Free Press1:27 p.m. EDT April 4, 2015
As hard as it is to consider, there may be other children in danger. And current policies regarding homeschooling and child abuse may not protect them.

......
"I was in shock," Fredlund said, "and I guess some of my first thoughts were, 'What more could I have done?' "
But when Stoni Ann Blair suddenly stopped coming to school, he did try to help.
Fredlund, who retired from Detroit Public Schools last September, reported Stoni's absence to a DPS attendance agent. That agent said he requested a bench warrant for the mother. Fredlund never learned what became of the warrant.
.....

"I guess my goal is to help make sure this doesn't happen again," Fredlund said of why he is talking about his search. "I don't know what more I could have done."
Thank God for Eric Fredlund. It won't be blight and taxes that steal the most joy from Detroit. It will be the loss of our children.
I lost some joy and many tears this week becuse of the deaths of Stoni and her brother. But I gained some hope from a teacher who refused to ignore her absence.

Well this IS Detroit after all. Most of the inner city is a lost cause. 80% of their homicides go unsolved and last I heard parts of the city no longer have services such as fire response.

Not true. What is true is that city services have experienced serious cutbacks with slower-than-normal response times, but there are no areas of Detroit that are ignored or neglected. I grew up in Detroit (1950-60s) and following college away from home, I've lived in metro-Detroit my entire adult life. I wouldn't live in the city, but DH and I avail ourselves of the many cultural, dining, entertainment, and sports facilities found in Detroit.

VIDEO: Mom of kids found in freezer escorted out of court after outburst

4:41 AM, Apr 8, 2015

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The mother charged with abusing and murdering two of her children had to be escorted out of the courtroom during a pretrial hearing on Wednesday.

Mitchelle Blair, the 35-year old mother of four, arrived at the hearing where the State of Michigan tried to terminate her parental rights to two of her surviving children.
Early in the hearing, she lashed out at one of the children's fathers.
"You were an alcoholic and you were never there," she yelled.
At one point, she was escorted out of the room and brought back a bit later.

We’ve learned her surviving children, a 17-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy, have been in protective custody since last month when an officer performing an eviction found the bodies of their two siblings in a freezer inside their home. The kids forced to walk by that freezer every day.

I've been away since 9:00 and haven't caught up on media coverage of the hearing. WWJ radio report indicated that MB was quite "animated" and hurled a few obscenities at one of the children's fathers. I will put away groceries and read everything I can find about the court proceeding.

Wow! I shudder just thinking about what those youngsters must have endured on a daily basis. How can MB's friends/neighbors claim that she is a beautiful woman who loves her children and that they didn't think she would do anything to harm them? She really had them buffaloed. :stormingmad:

MB's defense attorney sure has his work cut out for him. How on earth will he control his client?

Where does it say they are wanting to terminate the dads' parental rights? I only found this and it is unclear who they refer to:

The hearing was a pretrial conference on a request by the state to terminate parental rights of Blair's surviving children.

Ignore my previous question. I took a long time posting it and had not seen this post.

Please bear with me - they are suggesting terminating the dads' rights because they did not maintain regular and physical contact and owed child support?

That's the gist of it. Also, I don't believe that either of the fathers is gainfully employed and able to provide a comfortable home, food, clothing, medical/dental care, psychological support, etc. for the surviving children. Under the circumstances, it's probably in their best interest to be placed in foster care. Perhaps, in time, the children can be adopted by loving families who will provide a much kinder living environment than their mother did. :moo:

If these father's had any relationship with their children that should be continued.
If the fathers show a genuine concern and love for the kids, they should be allowed to do so.
If they need help supporting them, let's help them support them.

If the kids don't know them that is different.
I would have to punish the kids and father because Mom kept them away.
These kids have already lost almost everything else - including their only full sibling.
Let's not take away their father's if they can have any positive influence on them.

Odds are not good these kids will be adopted... they are likely to age out while still in foster care. :twocents:

The State has been on this from the beginning.

"The petition says each father "failed to protect his children from an unfit home environment where the children were physically abused, tortured, and murdered."

This is not a new thing this week. Below is my original post in regard to the Termination.

It just keeps getting worse and worse ....... :(

BBM

.....

"The state is seeking to terminate the parental rights of the fathers of Blair's two surviving children, who are now in the care of a family member."
Today, during a juvenile court hearing – with the Free Press being the only media in attendance – Blair was patched in by phone from the Detroit Detention Center, as the two fathers of her children sat in the courtroom.
......

"The petition says each father "failed to protect his children from an unfit home environment where the children were physically abused, tortured, and murdered."
......

"This isn't the family's first contact with Children's Protective Services. According to the petition, the family had prior contacts with CPS on Sept. 18, 2002 and Feb. 21, 2005".
....

In addition to the abuse allegations, the petition also indicates that Blair had continued receiving assistance for all four of her children.
"Mitchelle Blair received $771 per month in food assistance for four children through March 2015, accepting governmental benefits for the two deceased children," the petition says. It says she also received Medicaid for the four children, as well, and last accepted child support for Stephen and her other son in December 2014."
