Children found in freezer to 'bring new light' to city

The short lives of Stephen Berry and Stoni Blair will bring change for other children, preventing future tragedies like the ones they endured.
It was one of the messages at the joint funeral for the children, whose frozen bodies were discovered in the freezer of their Detroit home last month. Their mother is accused of torturing then killing Stephen and Stoni when they were 9 and 13.

"They did not die in vain," said Detroit City Councilwoman Mary Sheffield. "Because I know that they will bring new light to a dark city."

"The village failed these children," he said. "You're to blame. I'm to blame. All of us are to blame."

Detroit — Hundreds gathered at Greater Grace Temple on Monday to say goodbye to "Honey Bear" and "Little Man," and to pray their surviving brother and sister can lead normal lives after the horror they've lived through.

The bodies of the siblings, Stoni "Honey Bear" Blair, 13, and Stephen "Little Man" Berry, 9, were found inside a freezer March 24 by court deputies who were serving an eviction notice at the Detroit apartment where the brother and sister lived with two other siblings and their mother, Mitchelle Blair. Police say Blair tortured the children before killing them and placing them in the frozen tomb.

Blair, who prosecutors say also tortured the two surviving children, has been charged with several crimes, including first-degree murder...

“I want them to have what they didn’t have at home,” said Angela Gordon, great-aunt of the two surviving children, an 8-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl. This is wonderful, however it certainly provides more incentive for the absentee dads to try for these kids. I know, very cynical of me. Every aspect of these survivors lives and well being need to be protected from absolutely anyone else who could victimize them again. I am so worried for their ability to grow into healthy adults given the start they received.

Might not be easy.

It could be less. Not sure if there is a birth date has ever been mentioned but it states she is 17 now. Could be a month, 2, 6 ????

She is the daughter of AD and he is the one who is trying to get custody and given interviews. She will be able to make up her own mind where she goes as soon as she is legally able.

Stoni Ann Blair and Stephen Gage Berry were precious children with limitless potential, and their senseless deaths at the hands of their mother have shocked and saddened the entire state of Michigan.
Mitchelle Blair, the Detroit woman accused of killing Stoni and Stephen and then hiding their bodies, is a murderer who deserves, at best, to spend the rest of her life in prison.
This tragic situation is not, and never was, however, a homeschooling problem.

Seems Dr. Shiener has his hands full these days. Along with Evaluating Mitchlle Blair, It appears he is also going to be doing an evaluation in the Donna Scrivo Case.:crazy:

The funds allocated for Shiener would only pay for the evaluation and not for him to testify in court if necessary. Haddad said Sheiner’s fee to testify would be an additional $3,500 for a half-day and $5,000 for a full day.
