Detroit — The mother charged with killing two of her children and storing their bodies in an apartment freezer yelled out twice in court about her role in the deaths, temporarily halting the proceeding as she was escorted from the court.

Mitchelle Blair is in Wayne County juvenile court regarding custody of her two surviving children. As taped testimony by her her 8-year-old son, who was recounting what he witnessed happened to one of his siblings, was ending, Blair yelled out: He "didn't see me kill Stephen cause it was unintentional." ...

According to her father who testified at the hearing today, the oldest daughter will turn 18 in 48 days. He said that if the Court rules against him, it won't really matter because he will pursue a relationship with his daughter who will be an adult and can make the decision for herself if she wants to see her dad.

Oh, my, yes, believe -- I wonder how many days, prior to The Discovery, in the past year or so she has even been away from, or out of, the aptartment? Seems to me, she's got to be very "young" in some respects, and I'm worried for her.

And in that same worry, I wonder how much schooling she has had? Can she read on an adult level? Is she able to do math well enuff to run a cash register, count money, etc.? It would be nice, after things calm down a bit, for her to get a job and do something that makes her proud of herself while also helping with her own support -- food, clean clothes, shoes, underwear, simple things that she needs on a daily/weekly basis. If there is bus service near where she will be living, does she know how that works? Maybe, and I hope so, she is more sophisticated that I'm crediting her, but I worry. She is a young and very vulnerable person, IMO. SMH

Just hearing her voice and the way she uses it, scares me. How could those poor children deal with that? SMH. She sounds cruel and mean, IMO. Oh, how awful.

Detroit — The second day of a trial in the state of Michigan's request to terminate the parental rights of a Detroit woman accused of killing two of her children and hiding their bodies in a standalone freezer for two years continues Friday.

The request by state authorities also includes ending the parental rights of the two fathers of the children of Mitchelle Blair, whose 13-year-old daughter, Stoni Ann Blair, and nine-year-old son, Stephen Berry, were found dead in a freezer in March.

The trial is scheduled to continue at 9:30 a.m. Friday before Wayne County Judge Edward Joseph in the Lincoln Hall of Justice...

Based on what I've read/heard about the custody proceedings, I doubt that the Judge will grant custody to either of the fathers or Mitchelle. IIRC, the 8-year-old is currently living with a female relative who used to work in child protective services for the City of Detroit. Perhaps the Judge will allow the boy to stay with her. Like the dad said, the soon-to-be-18-year-old can decide for herself whether or not she wants to be with her biological father. Personally, I would like to see her placed in a group home or other supervised facility while she receives mental health services and learns some job skills. Clearly, Mitchelle Blair has some serious mental issues, and I hope the Judge denies her access to her surviving children.
