I had not been following this case till I saw the video about the candlelight vigil on CNN. Had to read the entire thread to get up to speed.

As far as the speculation that one of the boys didn't "look" like his own biological child: since when does lighter or darker hair keep someone from loving their own child? Why do the children have to look just like him? Most children are composites of both parents and their ancestors - and besides that is a slippery slope for justifying the disappearance of all three boys. What if these were girls? Would the question even come up?

Our schools need to teach biology and genetics better than they do. JMOO Human beings can have traits of every ancestor going back generations and there are wild cards. My older son has a reddish beard, and there is no red hair on either side. My younger son was white blonde as a baby and now his hair is dark brown. Blue or hazel eyes can appear in families where both parents have brown eyes (like my husband's family).

What bothers me is that this guy had lost his job here at Christmas time and he clearly had problems. Spending more time with the kids sounds great unless this guy was spending more time trying to figure out how to do away with them. :furious:

The story about passing the kids off to a nice woman sounds alot like Caylee Anthony's Zanny the Nanny. The nonexistent Nanny.

What you say is very true! I would guess many of us would have an example to share.

What I noticed was the youngest child has features that favor his father's mother (paternal grandmother). IMO

I am going to wonder out loud (kinda) here about a few things.

I wonder if in the things seized from the father's home were shopping receipts? It's not that hard to buy kids new coats, and he may have bought them and left them in the van...this is of course assuming that he was not going to kill them, just make it look like he had. I am sure LE has checked credit card reciepts and things like that very carefully.

I wonder if he had a separate doctor that he took the boys to while they were at his house, I doubt it, but it is a possibility. I hope that the boy's doctor and pharmacies have been questioned to see if he obtained extra inhalers for them at any point.

And I wonder about this friend that drove him to the hospital. I think that if there really were a friend, the media would have figured out who they were and been all over them. i also think we would have heard about any statements that the friend made...there has been nothing. Makes me wonder if there really was a friend or if that was bad reporting and he took himself to the hospital.

Every time I read about this little guy he just makes me smile... They are all adorable though...

Candles keep hope for missing boys alive
Five days before he and two brothers disappeared, Andrew Skelton made a vow.
With Christmas lights being put up at his church and a city park, "We're going to light up this town," the 9-year-old told his pastor.

The question comes up because you are correct, biology and genetics are not taught well enough.

To clarify for some, skin color and eye color are polygenic traits. That means there are multiple alleles that code for the genes. You get 3 genes from your mother and 3 from your father (out of their 6, each.) So if you were a black male and white female, you could very well have a very white baby. How that works is, lets say the black male has 3 lighter alleles and 3 very dark alleles... he appears dark. Mom, 4 light alleles and 2 dark alleles. The offspring inherits 3 of the dad's light alleles and 3 of the mom's lightest alleles. The baby, is quite light in skin tone. Also know, environment and other biological things factor in too. Some people reach a darker complexion over time from the sun and hormones or whatever (I believe it is hormones or might be another bio factor.) As you get older, you never really get as light as you were when you were a baby. Your skin color has reached it full biological potential as well as darkening by the sun.

Hair is not so complicated but I do believe it has more than one allele.

Here's a good visual for polygenic traits (this is a skin one.)

ETA: had to fix some of my own facts :)

Im days behind and not been logged in for some time so forgive me if this has been reported already here. If some of you recall, I am local, and just found out about a report that's been kept mum until recently. I was reading the 13abc's FB page today and someone posted an article that was in the Sandusky newspaper sunday. There was a woman reported to have possibly seen the boys in a donut shop there on NOv. 27th. She also stated she thought she heard one of them being called Tanner by a woman. You can find the article online, I cant find the link at the moment, will try to get it up though. Meanwhile those of you who read the 13's site you should be able to find it there too. I guess they are having a reporter investigate this today as this is new news to most people. It's likely just mistaken identity, as most of us know from the Kyron Horman case in particular- all the false sightings-- but anyways, this woman called Sandusky Police who contacted Morenci police about this.

also another thing I wanted to say--I sure hope LE decides to let volunteers search again this week. We have a possible big snowstorm coming Saturday/Sunday. It's kind of far ahead for them to know how much snow we might get, but the weatherman said this is "one to watch" and that it "Has a lot of moisture to work with" so its very possible we could get slapped with our first heavy snow of the season- that would be very bad timing for the searching. They need to get their butts in overtime with as many volunteers as possible, IMO, if the want to find anything before it gets buried in snow =(

I have been wondering something the last couple of days and thought I would put it out there... I don't want to say this the wrong way nor am I implying any disrespect, BUT could there be a possibility that one or any of the boys are not JS's son(s). Could finding out something like this have sent him over the edge and into an emotional tailspin??

I just wanted to clarify that I was merely wondering this and did not mean to turn conversation to whom looked like whom:blushing: my apologies if I stepped on toes.....I do know of some situations where fathers have found out they were not the biological fathers, much to their chagrin...

with all the troubles JS had recently been experiencing, it just seems like there may be that one thing that may have pushed him over the edge

Wow ...someone may have spotted the boys??!! Why was this not on the news better?? IF it wasn't them, surely they could have asked that the woman that was spotted with 3 boys to please identify herself for the purpose of elimination.
Have people in that immediate area been asked what they may have seen?!

**I found a House of Donuts on Karl Ann Dr and a Jolly Donut on Milan Rd...okay Which one?>!?!

Comment from ABC's FB page posted by ABC
no voluntary searches taking place today and no news conference scheduled. Police were in a meeting this afternoon but have not commented on whether there are new developments.

I wonder if either place has security cams and how long they keep the footage?

It probably wasn't in the news likely because it was a poor lead, IMO. If it had been more credible, LE probably would have been more forthcoming with this info and also not have said expected a negative outcome. Also, I can't imagine who in their right mind would have been possibly aiding in a kidnapping would stop off in a donut shop right off the turnpike area risking a run in with the police. I mean I hope Im wrong and I hope these kids are still alive and that someone has them hidden safely. It sure beats the alternative. But sadly I don't think this is the case.

according to the article, it was the one on Milan Rd. btw 9:30 and 10 a.m. Maybe you could call them and ask if they have video cams there, I have no idea. My guess would be that they don't though, Sandusky is a small town, low crime rate. Although they do get a ton of tourism (Cedar Point, Kalahari indoor Water Park, shopping etc )

That's funny Peeples - spoken like a True Crime junkie!!! It's funny how our minds automatically turn to things like that when other people would never think about it!
