Mom of 3 missing boys: 'I have to keep going'

It's been almost three years since Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner Skelton, then 9, 7, and 5 respectively, disappeared on Thanksgiving, 2010. They were last seen with their father John Skelton.

Since then, their dad pleaded "no contest" to three counts of unlawful imprisonment and was sentenced to 10-15 years in prison.

[snip]

Despite all she's been through, the boys' mother -- Skelton's ex-wife Tanya Zuvers -- tries to be optimistic.

I think about these little boys all the time and it breaks my heart for them and their Mom. I just hope they will be found. JMO but if the father would rather go to jail than tell the truth, it must be because they are not with us anymore. I hope I'm wrong.

3 years later, and I still feel like I'm kicked in the stomach when I look at that picture of the 3 boys together. :(

I just came over here to see what was happening and they are still missing. I found an article about the upcoming anniversary of the boys gone missing.

Anniversary of Missing Boys Fast Approaching

The family of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton are hopeful the boys will be found, but aren't holding a public gathering to mark the 3-year anniversary.

Tanya Zuvers, the boys' mother, says the family just wants some quiet time this Thanksgiving.

The boys disappeared three years ago while visiting their father, John Skelton. He is currently serving time on unlawful imprisonment charges.

That bas***d anyway. I would fit to be tied if I was their Mother. Where are the boys, John?

I drove out last week to Indiana through Northwest Ohio. Every time I go through that part of the state I think about Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner. We need to kick this back into high gear again. 3 years is 3 years too long - these boys need to be home!!

So I read all the threads last night from the very first. I wanted to refresh my memory and get a new perspective, and I did. Here are some of my thoughts:

The critical window of time was 4-7 AM on Friday morning. I mapped the route from Morenci, MI to Kunkle, OH to Wauseon, OH and back to Morenci. This is very roughly I think the area he drove based on the searches. That drive all the way through and back to beginning would take an hour and a half. That only leaves an hour and a half to do whatever else he did in that time frame. But the cell phone pings should have been able to narrow this down even more right? If I was the police, here's what I would have expected to see - pings every now and then from towers along the way, and then at some point, the phone pinging off of one tower or back and forth between two tours for a longer period of time, and then again pinging at intervals on the way home. In which case I'm going to center my search around the place the pings were at for that longer period of time - roughly a few miles either way of that one or two towers. That may in fact be what the police have done.

So I'm guessing he started pinging away from his house around 4 AM and back around his house again at 7 am. Otherwise, if he was back at the house by say 6, our timeline would be shorter.

Did anyone actually see the boys with him that morning? I thought I remembered someone thought they did. If not, he could have just been disposing of evidence and the actual disappearance time window could be over 12 hours wider. Yikes. Of course that would mean his phone would have been off for that time because any other long car trip time pings in that day and I'm sure LE would have been all over that too.

What are sites in and around the little towns in that area (Kunkle, West Liberty, Holiday City, etc.) where a minivan pulled off would go unnoticed? What portions of these areas have/have not been searched? Which abandoned buildings have/have not been checked? I'm not sold on the JS broke his ankle at his home story. I think he may have broken it running in the woods or tripped on a root or stepped in a gopher hole or some or climbing down an embankment, and losing his balance, etc. Something. So where might a minivan pull off unnoticed AND terrain be wooded or uneven or open fields that are NOT farmland (because I think farmers would have noticed footprints, turned earth, odd things and reported it.)

What would be the value of TES or the other org I can't think of right now coming out and searching after all this time?

Did we ever find out why JS supposedly wanted his friend to take him to the hospital in Wauseon? I thought that was so odd since he had just been in roughly that same area. My theory has always been that he was pretty close to a breakdown right then - but from fear, not grief. I think he wanted to kind of see what activity was like in that area. Wanted to just see that there weren't sirens all over the place, that life was continuing on as normal in NW Ohio - wanted to see that whatever he may have hid out there was secure.

Have we ever made a really good timeline of everything we know about those last 72 hours or so in order piece by piece? If not, we should. If so, can someone point me to it because I didn't see one, or maybe would like to add to it.

State Police take lead in investigation of two missing downstate boys
Posted on November 19, 2013 by ABC 10

As this case enters its third year, investigators have re-examined the investigative resources assigned to the case, and after careful consideration, decided to have the MSP take the lead in the investigation. The resources available from the MSP will ensure the case continues to move forward no matter how long it takes to solve. The Morenci Police Department and FBI will continue as investigative partners in the investigation.

“This case is one of the most significant unsolved cases in Michigan,” said D/F/Lt. Sean Furlong of the MSP First District Special Investigation Section. “Having the case at the MSP will ensure it receives the continued attention it deserves.”

Case of three missing Skelton boys handed over to Michigan State Police

7:38 PM, November 19, 2013

Detroit Free Press - Detroit, MI

Michigan State Police took over the investigation of three missing Morenci boys — Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton — who disappeared nearly three years ago.

On Monday, Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks drove to Lansing and handed over the case files, said Detective 1st Lt. Sean Furlong of the State Police First District Special Investigation Section. Morenci police, along with the FBI, will continue to assist.

Furlong said the State Police, which has been involved since the investigation started, has more resources than a smaller department and that Weeks formally requested the change.

“It makes more sense for us to take the lead and spearhead this moving forward, just to make certain that the case doesn’t end up on a shelf somewhere or go cold,” he said.

3 years later, mother of missing Skelton boys remains hopeful

It's hard to believe it will be three years this Thanksgiving since the Skelton brothers went missing from Morenci. That day, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton vanished without a trace.

As their father sits in prison refusing to say what he's done with them, there's now been a shift in the case with Michigan State Police steeping in and taking over the investigation.

The boys' mother, Tanya Zuvers, has come a long way in three years. She's vowing not to let what her ex-husband has done force her to the bottom of a bottle, or worse. She has hope and wants you to as well.

Mother marks 3 years since boys disappeared

Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton are the youngest of Tanya Zuvers' five kids. They were last seen playing in their father's backyard on November 25, 2010. After that, the trail goes cold.

"I love them to the moon and back," says Zuvers. "I think about the boys everyday but I don't let it consume my day."

What are some of the SAR org's y'all know of? I wonder if we could convince one to get in touch with MSP and offer their services. I just feel like there are probably a lot of areas that should still be checked. Not that I don't think the local LE was 110% committed to this....there's just so much ground out there.

Do you mean like Tim Miller's Texas Equasearch? They require the relatives or LE to request their help.

Over the pasts few days I have been thinking about these boys & trying to remember their names.
Tonight I turned to NG, & what case is she talking about? The Skelton brothers.

I pray they are found & brought home to their mum soon & thank the good Lord for Judge Margaret for
giving him 15 years. I wish all judges were like Judge Margaret.
Godspeed, Tanner, Alexander & Andrew

Watched NG and again my heart was broken because of these darling little boys! How anyone could hurt them is beyond me. I hope someday the remains are found.

Families look for answers at Missing in Michigan event in Flint

by Kyle Mitchell

FLINT -- People came together in Flint on Saturday to help police and families track down the missing.

More than 4,500 people are missing in the state. Organizers of the Missing in Michigan event say the goal is to bring families together and provide information to investigators.

The Michigan State Police recommends that families check to make sure their loved ones are in all the current databases. Troopers say families should also have DNA on file...

...Family members of Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner Skelton also attended the event. One of the boys sisters Courtney Derby says their father abducted them in November of 2010 in Morenci, Michigan and is serving time in prison for their disappearance...

I think about these darling little boys almost daily. What kind of monster could look into their little faces and destroy them to get even with a mother who had rejected him?
