Body found in lake may be missing Ypsilanti woman

Tonya Jackson disappeared a year ago

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. -
A body pulled from a lake in Washtenaw County is being examined to determine if it's a woman who disappeared a year ago.

Tonya Jackson, an Ypsilanti mother of three, was last seen at a Romulus motel with a co-worker in May 2014.

Investigators had been searching Ford Lake after her wallet with her ID was found near there on Tuesday...

It does indeed appear it was an accident. Was this body of water, right beside her home, not previously searched? I'm glad her family can maybe get some answers now, sad that it took more than a year to get them.

Rest easy, Tonya.

I am not sure where she lived, but it is somewhere in Ypsilanti township. South of Ypsilanti, in Ypsilanti township, there are lots of residential areas. If she lived around there then the the place the car was found would be on the fastest path between her residence and the inn.

I am having doubts now. I am not sure how she could have driven into the lake accidentally, when the road is straight.
Moreover, it would have been difficult to drive the car into the lake without hitting the electricity tower. The car
would have to make a sharp turn. Also, if the had been skidmarks going from the road to the lake, people would have suspected that a car went into the lake there.

Detectives told family members that they believe a body pulled from the lake around 4 a.m. Thursday is Tonya Jackson's, the then-42-year-old mother of three reported missing in May 2014. The body was found near the Ford Lake Dam on Bridge Road. A silver SUV was also pulled from the lake, according to the family. Jackson was last seen driving a silver 2007 Saab SUV.

Jackson, who lived at the Lakeshore Apartments complex less than a mile from Ford Lake, was last seen near Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus. Jackson's wallet washed ashore earlier this week and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office sent a dive team in the water to search for her body and additional clues.

The Lakeshore apartments are really close to the place she was found. Steelman, could you add this to the map?
But now it doesn't make sense to me. If she had travelled from the Knights Inn home, the fastest way would be the highway.
There would be no need to cross the bridge on bridge rd. Also, it seems nearly impossible that she would have driven
the car into the lake accidentally without hitting the electricity tower, guard rail and one sign in between. I suspect foul play.

I was in the car earlier this morning and heard on WWJ radio that Tonya lived in an apartment complex called Lakeshore or Lakeview in Ypsilanti Twp. Do you know where that is?

:waitasec: Was there ever a witness to TJ having been in the bar/restaurant where the note was found? Sounds like this was a ruse.

Thanks for the tip, I moved the icon closer to where you described.

Any other locations that should be labeled, just let me know and I'll throw them on the map.

I just came across this case today.

No there is no witness. And I agree that the note was probably a ruse. I think the wallet might be a ruse as well. It just seems to perfect. An wallet with an ID exactly at the location of the body? You would think that after floating for a year, it would end up somewhere else. I wonder if the wallet looked like it had been in the water for a year, or whether it looked like it had been there for a short while.

Here is an experiment: Throw something that floats at the location of the car. I bet it would get sucked under the bridge and end up
on the other side of the bridge.

The person who wrote the note at the restaurant could have done the following:
He/She went to the women's bathroom, carefully unwinded the toilet roll until it was close to the end, scribbled down the note,
and then rolled it up again. Then the note might have been found days later, and the perp would have an alibi!

Added it. Last item on menu now.

If they find the 7 dollars that her date claimed to have given her, I'd say case closed on this one. Some sort of freak accident.

Anybody know how to date these satellite images ? We may be able to spot the car ourselves if we zoom in close enough on the map.

The site is about a mile from where Jackson, a mother of four, lived at Lakeshore Apartments on Bridge Road.
It seemed to be a particular area near the bridge they were concentrating on quite a bit."

You know the worst thing about this case, her husband has probably driven right by the location she was submerged a hundred times since she vanished.

Rack this one up to another person driving off into the water in the middle of the night, it seems to be sort of a trend lately.

Authorities believe body in lake is missing woman

Holly Fournier, The Detroit News 1:15 p.m. EDT May 28, 2015

Ypsilanti Township — Authorities believe a body found in a Washtenaw County lake is that of a woman who disappeared a year ago, according to the sheriff's office.

"Although it still needs to be confirmed by the medical exmainer, we believe that this is Tonya Jackson," Washtenaw County Sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson said Thursday.

Jackson said divers discovered a female body around 3 a.m. Thursday in Ford Lake, about a mile from the missing woman's former apartment. The apartment is part of a complex adjacent to the lake, he said...

Some new details:

A silver SUV was also pulled from the lake, according to the family. Jackson was last seen driving a silver 2007 Saab SUV. Derrick Jackson said two vehicles were pulled from the lake Thursday morning, but he cannot confirm at this point if either of the vehicles belonged to Jackson.

"We don't have that level of detail yet," Derrick Jackson said, adding that her body was not inside of either vehicle.
Two vehicles? But the body wasn't in either of them?
