7:00 may simply be the time Doug Stewart repeatedly told him, while discussing the details of the plan, he would arrive back in Newport News if all when according to schedule.

I agree, the time line is off. The only way he could have returned by seven is someone else buried her.

A well, a drainage ditch, a field that was plowed, a construction dumpster...He had to choose a place that was not readily seen from the road between 8 and 10am.

Or DS lied to RS and actually dumped her in his original spot.

We have to consider that even though Doug thought he could get away with murdering Venus, he had to consider that Ricky Spencer might talk.

Doug Stewart may have convinced himself that even if Ricky Spencer talked, if he had no clue where Venus's body might be, he could be portrayed as a crazy liar.

Where Doug messed up was by leaving the Walmart receipt in his truck, the tarp cover at the murder scene and tire impressions in the field.

Had there been no Walmart receipt or tarp cover and the person didn't see and report the truck, what would the police have to go on?

Doug was convinced having Ricky Spencer pose as him would work. However, he had to cover his bases as well so lying to Ricky would have been the perfect plan to throw the police off as to how far from the murder scene Venus's body was buried.

Doug may have convinced himself that there was no way he could be charged with murder without Venus's body being found. Besides making sure he wasn't caught at or near the scene of the abduction, Doug's main focus had to be making sure Venus body is NEVER found.

To eliminate that possibility, Doug could have intentionally fed Ricky Spencer inaccurate information.

If Doug did bury Venus on his father's property, that would have added 20 minutes driving time to the trip for driving in the opposite direction he needed to travel to get back home.

If Doug was planning on burying Venus on his father's farm, surely he would not have let Ricky Spencer know that.

Surely Doug discussed his plan to murder Venus, including the particulars, with his father who could have said, "If you are going to bury her here, you can't tell Ricky that! You need to make him think her body is somewhere else! This is what you can do! After you've driven for a couple hours, call him and tell him you are near the grave and you can't put her there because there are people there then wait an hour or so and call him back and say you're done. That will convince him she's nowhere near Colon. If he goes to the police, or tells someone this story and they go to the police, everyone will think she's buried two hours drive away from where we've put her here on the farm! They'll NEVER think that you were lying to Ricky!"

If that is the case, his father could have been waiting somewhere in Doug's line of travel to Newport News where Venus's body was quickly transferred after which Doug sped off, with the transfer not taking any longer than sitting at a traffic light.

I'm coming in a bit late, though have followed most of this week...is it a fact or theory that DS's father is involved at least to the extent of accomplice after the fact or guilty knowledge?

It is sickening to think of, but there are at least three other cases I know of where in-laws aided in murdering or murdered the mother (and in one case, father) of their grandchild.

DS is a thinker, no doubt. Also, he is good at controlling his body language. The only thing I noticed during the pre-trial was a little facial tic he has.

blackdog was at the hearing and would be the one to answer your question. I have read that Ricky Spencer testified that Doug Stewart's father had been informed about the plan to murder Venus but can't give you the media link at the moment because I can't recall which reporter included that in their article. (Each reporter gives almost identical reports but throws in a few unique quotes from the hearing that the others didn't include.)

RS just kept talking and talking..it was hard to keep track of all the details..

No one really new what was going to come out of RS on the stand. So, when he mentioned DS saying "the only people I'm going to tell is my family and my lawyer" DS's father and someone near him turned beet red. I also noticed sweat on DS's lawyer forehead. However, I have no idea whether anyone in the family was involved.

All reasonable imo. If DS predug a spot to bury Venus' which we suspected before the news came out about RS he was meticullous in his planning. Some of that planning had to include a route home. I really don't see him taking the time to dig another spot to bury her. It would have thrown him off his too well timed/prepared plan. I wonder if he instead went back to the original burial site a short time later when people weren't around but did not tell that to RS.

I wonder if DS ever told RS where the original burial spot was.

just thinking outloud.

Did RS happen to say when DS told him this?

What does everyone think about them turning beet red? Did they have that oh crap look on their faces too or more angry? I'm not sure what my reaction would be in that position. I'd like to think it would be more of an immediate angry reaction than turning beat red. But I am really not sure not having been in that predicament.

The kid said he didn't sleep well and was remembering more details. So, who knows what might come out. One thing for sure, everyone was shocked in the courtroom by the detail RS was coming out with.

I'm not sure anyone noticed. That was one of the things I was most interested in watching. It's hard for people to control their body language. If I was an investigator, I would definitely review the tapes. I was wondering the whole time if someone involved with DS might also be watching the pre-trail

I wonder if he slept well when DS first told him of this plan but before they followed through with it. Probably slept like a baby or he would have gone to LE so the plan could have been prevented. :furious:

I would think someone who turned beet red for being exposed as being aware of the crime before it happened and did not report it to the authorities would continue to stare straight ahead where a red face resulting from anger due to believing Ricky Spencer was lying would have been accompanied with an angry, shocked or disgusted facial expression and the person perhaps turning their head to look at the person next to them.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor, during the press conference announcing the imposter was Richard Spencer, stated that Ricky Spencer claimed he did not know where Venus Stewart is.

Since Ricky has been so forthcoming with so many other details, I find no reason to believe that he wouldn't reveal the location of Venus's body if he knew where she was buried (or) where Doug had planned to bury her.

I hope everyone has a chance to read the transcript when it's available. I feel certain that I have the facts straight, but so many details were coming out it was hard to digest it all. .

Here is my reply from a close family friend of Larry and Theresa McComb about when Theresa left to go to work:

Theresa left for work at approx. 5:30 AM. Doug Stewart would have known this as she has worked at the same place for 15 years.

The older two grandchildren living with the McCombs got on the bus at 7:00.

In my opinion, Doug would have had to call the house near 8:00 as it would have been suspicious that the postal carrier would have come any earlier.

The house sits on the river and the back yard and driveway face the road.

The front of the home faces the river with alot of windows, the back of the house has none.
