ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) The day after Venus Stewart would have celebrated her 33rd birthday investigators went into the woods once again to search for her body.
On Thursday investigators headed into the woods in St. Joseph County to look for her.
Off Rosenbaugh Road is an area known as Black Snake Swamp. That swamp straddles both St. Joseph and Kalamazoo counties and investigators
say it's a place that Doug Stewart knows well.
It took a ride in an all-terrain vehicle to reach the search area where more than 40 law enforcement officers from throughout West Michigan would look for Venus' body.
It was an area we felt needed to be searched, said Lt. Mike Risko, Michigan State Police.
The Black Snake Swamp is a mile long and between a quarter-mile and half-mile wide, a mix of dense underbrush and woods. It's also
just a mile from where Stewart's parents live.
The owners of the property have contacted us and told us
Doug Stewart had hunted this property, said Lt. Risko.
Stewart's tree stand is still in that swamp, but on Thursday, searchers were trying to determine if Stewart was in the swamp on the morning of April 26th, the day Venus disappeared.
