Third search for body turns up empty

Nearly 25 police officers searched three locations. Two of those were near East Y Avenue in Kalamazoo County and near Longnecker Road.

Officers from several divisions of Michigan State Police were joined by Sturgis police, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, Burr Oak police and the FBI for Thursday’s search.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Risko said the areas searched Thursday contained heavy foliage.

“It was slow going,” Risko said.

Risko said tips had been received that Douglas Stewart was familiar with the area.

Always check to see if they have found her. Its so sad. I hope they find her for her family sake, especially her children. They need to visit her grave, talk to her there, place flowers there, and cry for her there. Its a healing process.

Well, I live close to where this happened and there isn't much buzz in the community anymore about this case...it sucks.

I really hoped she'd have been found by now.

I'm sure the cops and the young prosecutor would much prefer to have a body to work against Mr. Stewart, rather than circumstances...

We may just have to sit tight until jury selection starts on 10/29
We're all still praying for the family though.

Yes, that does suck!!! IMO

There are 2 little girls without their Mommy and their Daddy because of what their Daddy did. Those girls do not deserve this. At least they should be able to know where their Mommy is.

I would hope the people in that area are still thinking about Venus and being on the lookout for anything that may help find her.

Gosh, I wish DS would just tell where she is for their children's sake. He's going down either way IMO.

Holding out hope of finding Venus

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Volunteers are not giving hope that they'll find the body of a missing St. Joseph County mother.

On Tuesday another search was organized for Venus Stewart. This time the search was in Kalamazoo County.

The group involved in Tuesday's search was not made up of law enforcement, instead about ten volunteers headed into the thick brush. It was the second time a volunteer search team went to the spot near Scotts in Kalamazoo County.

Organizer Denny Olson says a property owner there requested they take a look after noticing a gate had been removed.

Olson says the site at 29th and QR Avenue are familiar to Douglas Stewart, Venus' estranged husband who is charged in her death.

“We'll probably search again in October when the leaves start to fall,” said Olson. “At this point we are talking about bringing in scuba divers to search the pond.”
