I would think to get a conviction, they need to place him at the scene of the abduction at least.

It helps, as does every little piece of evidence, but isn't necessary.

Well, either MSP has lost their freakin mind and absolutely has no problem with being the butt of every joke ever made a la keystone cops, or DS put an awful lot of thought into this plan and that does not bode well for Venus. :(

Did you ever consider for a nanosecond that Doug may not have perpetrated this crime?

Police have two reasons they believe there is an impersonator: investigators can place Doug Stewart at a Walmart in Ohio the night before Venus disappeared, and there is a witness who can place Doug Stewart in Michigan the day she was abducted.

24 Hour News 8 also learned investigators believe the impersonator was wearing Doug Stewart's clothes and had a hood over his head, and that the impersonator even paid one of Doug Stewart's bills.

What if the witness saw an impersonator ?

Seems to me if I was going to commit this crime, I'd just have someone do it for me rather than take the chance my idiot accomplice was going to pull a unibomber impression.

Doug: You wore what?????

I originally thought that the DS could not be dumb enough to leave all of the clues behind in vehicles, etc, if he had done this...now I am pretty sure he could be that dumb...if he thought that no one would look into the incident of the man in a hoodie paying his bill as an alibi...he must think other people are are dumb as he seems to be turning out to be...to go to all that trouble and then leave a receipt in vehicle, is just too much for me...and can't wait to see who the poor son of a gun is he talked into doing this stand-in routine...JMO...

Seems like LE will be aided, once again, by the not-so-smart criminal leading a trail right back to himself...JMO of course

There were more witnesses, I thought. Was his only alibi paying his lawyer?

OK, so LE is saying Doug Stewart was in two places at once. That smells like a frame-up to me.

The WalMart used was local. The father said he knew "everything" that happened to Venus, but he was sleeping at the time. Venus didn't take her wallet, keys or cellphone with her. No one heard her scream, even though the family was inside the house.

This was an inside job.

Are there any family members that look like Doug? People on Venus' side of the family.

Nope, they haven't said that at all. Earlier they said that part of Doug's alibi was that he was in Virginia. Now they are saying that an impersonator was in VA, and Doug was in MI.

However, police say that for up to 48 hours prior to that time at least one person, possibly more, was traveling around Newport News, Virginia claiming to be Douglas Stewart.

“He probably must have had a number of Doug Stewart's personal documents,” said Lt. Mike Risko of the Michigan State Police. “We believe that he was pretending to be Mr. Stewart or impersonating Mr. Stewart at a number of different businesses, paying bills, drawing funds, things of that nature.”

Police say the imposter was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, ball cap and dark mirrored sunglasses. They are looking for help in identifying the man they say was pretending to be Douglas Stewart and say if the imposter doesn't reveal himself in the next few days he could be facing serious charges.

I would bet that the ball cap that the imposter was wearing is identical to the one that Genuine Doug bought at the Walmart in Ohio.

Yeah, local to people in Sometown, Ohio.

Are you still trying to blame Larry McComb for Venus' disappearance? Really?

Well, regarding faux-doug, it could have been worse. At least he didn't try this disguise

OK, but that still doesn't answer my follow-on question. Are there any family members on Venus' side of the family that look like Doug Stewart or the individual POI in the police sketch?

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Now we have multiple Doug Stewarts driving all over Newport News.

It must have been like a freakin' Elvis convention.
