We have talked about "the" video at Wal-Mart. I'm willing to bet there are SEVERAL videos from Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has a TON of cameras in the parking lot, throughout the store, at the registers, at the doors...
So, I bet he was on video getting out of the truck, walking into the door, selecting his items, checking out and paying for the items, walking out the door, and getting back into the truck.
That's a lot of video IMO.

But, was it really him?

So what are the odds that the impersonator would just happen to interact with the people who had never met DS ? This just sounds to incredible to believe.

Just because you have an attorney doesn't mean you've met him or her. I've used an attorney I've never met and another I didn't meet until he had worked for me for well over a year. We did business by phone and e-mail.

If DS had an impersonator as MSP says, there is absolutely NO WAY that this was not premeditated. If this is indeed true, which IMO is probably so, I don't think it would be that difficult to do if someone wore a hoodie and sunglasses. Think about it -- if you go to places that you don't go to real often or don't have a long standing relationship, most people aren't going to know it's you, especially if you're wearing sunglasses and a hoodie. I have delivery men come to my office and I can't honestly say that if someone impersonated one of them, that I'd realize it because I'm not paying close attention.

Also, regarding the will, my kids are grown so they wouldn't have to be taken care of if I died. However, I have two small dogs and I have already made my wishes known regarding them if I should die. So, yes, I can see a parent making plans for the well being of the children in the event of a parent's death. I don't see it about property because I don't think there's that much to be concerned about but I do see it as love for your children and wanting them to be taken care of. Take away the possible abuse and just have it be a mom and/or dad taking care of the welfare of their children. These wills are done all the time so IMO it's not suspicious.

I work at Kohl's where you can pay your charge card bill by mailing it or at any register in the store. It's happened more than once that I've had a customer say, "I usually mail this, but I was coming to the store anyway so I'll just leave it with you."

I don't recognize those customers. I don't usually see them. Yet, nothing is suspicious about this, either.

Could a similar situation have been in place for any of Doug's bills? Just wondering.
It seems from what I have read tonight that the "impersonator" actually tried to make various people believe he was DS, which to me is more than just going into a business paying a bill for a friend. MOO

And I still can't stop thinking about all the digital voice recording equipment they took from his apartment.

The cunning plan seems to have relied a great deal on luck ;)

But, if he didn't do it...how could all the evidence in so many locations be explained?

Remember that the reciept was only found over a week later, the video may have been taped over by then.

Was Doug ever in the Military Police or a cop? This is the kind of stuff we saw from Drew Peterson, magic tricks. He had training in MP, underground gangs and undercover narcs. One minute the car is in the driveway, next minute it's gone. This seems beyond what a truck driver delivering food would think of. moo

IMO not at Wal-Mart. I think they keep video longer than a week. Not sure how to go about sleuthing that, but I'm off to try.

Just found were Target keeps theirs for 30 days. Still no luck on Wal-Mart. Still looking.

That's actually been one of the things that bothers me the most about this case. Not the absence of evidence, but the total abundance of it. It's as if he's leaving a trail of bread curmbs that spell out "BUST ME, DOUG STEWART" For someone to go through such great lengths to try and carry out this convoluted scheme, only to leave the receipt and tarp cover behind is moronic. But I don't think you can be a decorated marine and a chemistry and biology student and be stupid. MOO

Well not all truck driver's are losers, you would be amazed at some of our backgrounds. Doug was also a former marine.

"WAVY.com has learned, Douglas Stewart was a decorated Marine, based at Camp Lejeune from 1999 to 2003."

It depends on what the evidence is, but most of what we know could be explained away if he didn't have the truck for example. It would be tougher for him if he did have the truck, in that case he would have to invoke some sort of Machiavellian plot.

The biggest problem for him I think will be if they can link the truck directly to the scene. Most of the other stuff they have wouldn't really place him there.

Maybe not stupid but nervous and careless. Not too many people can get away with the perfect murder.

Oh I'm sorry RubyRed if you took my comment to mean that. Of course all truck drivers aren't losers but I don't see this elaborate scheme put together by someone untrained or without a criminal mind, or even a con-artist. I compared this twisted scheme to Drew and I think it's quite elaborate. moo I just read he was a decorated Marine, now I'm wondering if he had help from one of his military buddies. Evidence in obvious places, imposters, different dates, strategic placement of various people etc. etc. seems very elaborate to me. A con-artist at his best. moo

ETA: Or maybe based on a movie/book!

BBM: yes most of the stuff "we know" they have. But, I think they have a lot more that we know. JMO

I've seen nothing that said he didn't have the truck.
And, he didn't report the truck missing.

So, IMO, he had the truck.
