Michael "Kramer" Richards - a racist?

2, despite my insistence that "cracker" and "🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" aren't really equivalent, I agree with every word in your post. It was never my intent to argue that it's okay for black people to call white people "crackers."
I don't feel they are equally insuting either. I find n****r to the most insulting racial slur. The only reason I can think of is b/c of how it was used in the past. Cracker was not used in the past to keep another race down. I find n****r as offensive asa calling a woman a bi**h or a "split tail" as my FIL says.

Split tail????!!!!

The nastiness of which people are capable never ceases to astonish me.

I know, isn't that disgusting?

What makes it particularly vile is that the expression implies that human females are "missing" something, i.e., deformed. And that's not only wrong but cruel on all sorts of levels.

And the fact that your FIL would say such a thing where you could hear him... Well, words fail me.

I was being ironic, Peter. My point was that when whites have been treated as blacks were, then we can talk about whether the epithets are equivalent.

They are not equivalent.

Jacobi, what you mean "he isn't even Jewish'--Of course he is--Michael Richards is Jewish--That's a main point of this thread, Nova was the first poster here to mention that he knew people at the club and the black guys were uttering anti-semitic remarks

He is NOT Jewish. Get your facts straight.

"Someone needs to tell Rodriquez that Michael isn't a Jew," said a television director who has known Richards for years. The two worked together in 1980 on ABC's "Fridays" television show and have remained in touch ever since.

According to sources familiar with Richards, the actor was raised I no specific religious tradition. "He does not have Jewish blood," said New York publicist Howard Rubenstein, who Richards retained to help manage his PR nightmare.

Rubenstein created some confusion over Richards' heritage when he told the press that the actor is indeed Jewish. "He's Jewish," Rubenstein is quoted as saying to Yahoo news.

In a telephone interview with The Jewish Journal, Rubenstein clarified that Richards was not born Jewish and never converted to Judaism."

His new publicist Howard Rubenstein says, "He really thinks of himself as Jewish. He said there were two mentors who raised him and who had a big influence on his life, and they were Jewish. He said, 'I agree with the concepts and the religious beliefs of Judaism and I've adopted Judaism as my religion.'"

But Rabbi Marvin Hier questions the claims, maintaining, "You can't feel Jewish. It's not a matter of feeling. You can convert to Judaism. You can't not convert to Judaism and then be Jewish."

Rabbi Mark S. Diamond of the 280-member Board of Rabbis of Southern California agrees: "There are many people who appreciate Jewish customs, who may embrace aspects of Jewish culture and practice, but that does not make them Jewish."

You don't "think" yourself Jewish. Sorry, Peter.

Since I was cited in Peter's response to you, momee, I'd like to point out that the same friend of Richards' who told me the hecklers yelled anti-semitic remarks ALSO told me Richards is NOT Jewish. (I pointed this out in a post many pages back.)

That being said, I think it's perfectly possible that Richards was incensed and incited by the anti-semitic remarks even though he is not Jewish. I'm not, but I'd be pretty upset (though I'd like to think I wouldn't respond in kind).

(ETA: Although Richards is clearly not Jewish per Jewish law and tradition (not even by Reformed standards), if he wants to "think" himself Jewish, it's alright with me. I'm not bound by Jewish law and tradition.)

but it is seen as derogatory to most so if blacks don't want white to call then n****r then they shouldn't call white crackers. Just like Jews shouldn't be called kikes, or asians called slant eyes, etc.[/QUOTE]I

FYI, did you see the article today that said that Damon Wayans was at the Laugh Factory. He used the N word in his act 16 times (a few more times than Kramer). Wonder why we're not hearing any flack from that. The Laugh Factory did not find it humorous since they have now banned the word from any act - black or white. He's now been banned from performing there for 3 months.

what's a "split tail"
It is just a disgusting word my FIL uses to describe women referring to them by their private areas.

I was agreeing with you. :banghead: Validation.

:blowkiss:

Sorry, Boyz. I think I figured that out from later posts and I should have gone back to say so.

Thanks.
