Ok, I stand corrected! Restaurants were given a little more freedom. This is good news in general but I had hoped for more.

Lansing — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Tuesday afternoon wide-ranging epidemic orders that will ease restrictions on businesses, nursing homes and other gatherings, a move she described as "good news" for the state.

The new policies will double capacity limits at restaurants from 25% to 50% and move the curfew for indoor dining from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. The new orders will also relax capacity limits on retail stores, moving them from 30% to 50%. The limitation on indoor household gatherings will go from 10 people from two households to 15 people from three households.

The orders will also allow family members who test negative for COVID-19 to visit relatives in a nursing home as long as the facility has not had a new COVID-19 case in the last 14 days, according to the Department of Health and Human Services...

As state COVID-19 restrictions ease, Ingham County health officials are allowing slightly larger outdoor gatherings in parts of East Lansing starting Friday.

An emergency order issued Thursday says no more than 15 people can congregate outside in the covered area, including downtown. It replaces a previous order issued in October that limited outdoor gathering sizes in the area to 10 people...

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan appeared to walk back comments he made this week after turning down doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine after pushback from public health experts.

Duggan said Thursday the city declined 6,200 doses because officials wanted to focus instead on vaccines that are "the best" in the market.

Neighboring Oakland County's Health Division announced Wednesday that it had received 7,400 doses of Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine, 700 more doses than the county initially expected.

On Thursday, Duggan said his decision to turn down 6,200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine didn't result in any Detroiters losing out on vaccination opportunities...

I was personally appalled by his earlier comments and actions. Hopefully Oakland County will benefit. There are so many folks that live just outside of Detroit, not eligible to go to the TCF center. Seems the vaccine is in short supply outside of Detroit. At least is was in my opinion. the leadership of this fine state has been disappointing me lately.

I received my first dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday. I am so glad!

I had a busy work week and twice went out to restaurants. One here in Mid-MI where I live, the other in Brighton yesterday on my way home from Detroit area.

both restaurants I ate in were filled to capacity. Not 25%, not 50%. Close to 100%.

State reports significant rates of virus infection, daily new cases

Michigan’s coronavirus infection rate is currently the worst in the country, according to recent data.

Coronavirus spread has begun to slow in much of the U.S. following a “third wave” of the virus. COVID-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations surged again in November of 2020 and remained consistently high through the first of the year. Now, data from research group Covid Act Now shows that many states are in far better condition as of March 2021, including Michigan.

But some of Michigan’s virus metrics are still not in great shape, especially as the state is seeing a small spike in virus spread mid-March...

Detroit — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other officials gathered at Ford Field Thursday to debut the state's largest single-site vaccination effort which is expected to administer more than 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

The COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic is set to open Wednesday and over the next eight weeks the site is expected to distribute 335,000 doses in addition to the state's allocation from the federal government that is going to hospitals and health departments and pharmacies, Whitmer said.

"That's 6,000 extra shots a day," she said, adding the state surpassed 3 million doses administered this week.

Whitmer thanked volunteers, partners and medical teams and said she's thrilled the state was chosen as one of the first federal vaccination sites...

Lansing — Dr. Anthony Fauci says Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer should "hold off for a bit" when it comes to easing COVID-19 restrictions amid rising infection rates and the push to vaccinate more residents.

During an appearance on CNN Thursday night, key President Joe Biden COVID-19 adviser Fauci said Whitmer is a "really good governor," but state officials should "pull back gradually" on limitations aimed at stemming the spread of the virus.

"I think she's done some really good things," Fauci said of Whitmer. "But I am telling them just hold off for a bit. When you get the overwhelming majority of your population vaccinated, the chances of there being a surge are minuscule. Just hang in there. Don't turn the switch on and off."...
