LANSING, Mich. – Michigan is lifting all of its COVID restrictions for capacity, masks and gatherings next week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced.

On Tuesday (June 22), both indoor and outdoor settings in Michigan will increase to 100% capacity, and face masks will no longer be required. Individual businesses will still be allowed to require masks.

Whitmer rescinds Michigan's major COVID restrictions starting Tuesday (detroitnews.com)

Lansing — Michigan's remaining restrictions on gatherings and masks will be dropped next week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Thursday, ending 15 months of broad limits on businesses and indoor activities in the state.

Under the changes that take effect Tuesday, maximum indoor capacity limits will increase to 100%, and the state's mask mandate for non-vaccinated people will be removed 10 days earlier than the original goal of July 1. Indoor capacity currently is capped at 50%.

The decision marks the removal of the most significant remaining pandemic rules as infection rates plummet and the percentage of Michigan residents protected by vaccines continues to increase. The Tuesday changes will occur 469 days after the state reported its first COVID-19 cases...

As mask mandate ends, Michigan workplace regulators issue new rules (detroitnews.com)

Lansing — Michigan workplace regulators filed new COVID-19 emergency rules Tuesday that largely align state rules with federal workplace guidance and let most employers "use their best judgment" on pandemic protocols.

The rules allow employers — with the exception of health care facilities — to decide whether to keep in place mask mandates, social distancing and daily health screenings, according to a statement from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The department added that it "strongly encourages" workplaces to follow federal workplace standards...

Michigan health department endorses continued mask wearing in schools (detroitnews.com)

Lansing — As Michigan schools prepare to reopen this fall, state health officials on Friday recommended students and staff continue to wear masks, get vaccinations and social distance to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The announcement, made by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, is not a significant departure from current recommendations for school districts and charter schools, which decide on their policies.

The state health department said it issued the interim recommendations for schools to help prevent transmission of the coronavirus within school buildings in an effort to reduce disruptions to in-person learning and help protect the unvaccinated...

MDHHS issues 12 COVID safety suggestions for Michigan schools during in-person learning (clickondetroit.com)

LANSING, Mich.
Michigan health officials have issued 12 safety recommendations to protect students and teachers from COVID-19 during in-person learning at schools.

The state lifted its COVID restrictions on Tuesday, but the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is still recommending certain safety guidelines within school buildings.

Children under the age of 12 aren’t eligible to receive a COVID vaccine, and it was only approved for children ages 12-16 last month. As a result, MDHHS made some recommendations to help schools fight the spread of the virus...

We are seeing so many of these statistics, yet it amazes me that the only people still wearing masks are those that are fully vaxed. I suspect that, for some people, Covid anxiety will be a life long affliction.

I always have a mask in my purse, and DH and I have masks in our respective vehicles, but we will not be donning them unless a business absolutely requires a mask. I am tired of having to "mask up" and hope that the vaccination truly offers protection for those who got their shots. Very few folks are wearing masks, and it's impossible to know who is or isn't vaccinated. I don't trust the "honor system" and hope that those who did not get vaccinated are fully aware of the risk they pose to themselves and others who didn't get the shots. With the Delta variant surging my many places, I'm not sure that we are out of the woods just yet.

I am right there with you. I keep a mask in my purse but only wear it when absolutely required. If there are two equal places to visit, we will choose the non mask required place. Mr. Pirate and I are back to our normal activities and enjoying restaurants, bars and shopping again while not masked.
I trust this vaccine. I cannot say for certain we will not get covid but I feel my vaccine offers me enough protection to make it a reasonable risk...along with all other 'life risks'. I hope more folks get vaccinated to protect themselves.
I will say this....IMHO....Covid is here to stay.

I guess I wonder what happened to "my mask protects you, your mask protects me." Clearly nobody wearing a mask, these days, is concerned with protecting anyone else. They are wearing masks to protect themselves, which then begs the question "why are they at the store, in the first place?"

My favorite is still the lady at our local Walmart. She was given a beach chair and a box of masks and got to sit out front, enforcing mask rules. One day I had left the store, after paying, and she accosted me, outside, wondering how I got past her with no mask. Of, course, I could have taken it off, after leaving store, but she was bound and determined to keep her easy gig, guarding the door. We exchanged a few words, and she said something to effect of "nothing matters except our rules, which will be in place at least through the summer." Ironically the CDC changed mask guidance the following day, and the next time I went to that store, the mask requirement was gone. I have to laugh, every time I see her working the cash register, with her mask below her nose. For all of her vitriol, she never believed in what she was enforcing - she just took it to extreme lengths so they wouldn't take away her beach chair and send her back to the salt mine!

I was just going to post this! I think all health systems should follow suit!

It strikes me that an enterprising personal injury lawyer would be carpet bombing these folks with advertising material, looking for the first one to experience a negative outcome from a forced vaccination. It's just a matter of time.

Participants needed for Beaumont Health study to research COVID antibody development (clickondetroit.com)

‘This study will help further understand the short and long-term benefits of COVID-19 vaccination,’ says Dr. Gabriel Maine

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Beaumont Health has launched a research study that allows participants to monitor their immunity to COVID-19 over the next two years.

The study aims to understand how someone develops antibodies from the vaccines and how long they last.

Researchers involved with the COVID-19 Vaccination Elicited Response (COVER) are particularly interested in the immune response in people who are immune compromised, such as transplant patients or those who take immunosuppressive drugs for autoimmune conditions...
