Help with COVID-19 patients or lose job, Beaumont Health says

Beaumont Health, the state's largest health care system, informed employees on Friday that anyone who refuses a transfer to work with COVID-19 patients will be considered to have resigned and ineligible for future employment.

The policy, obtained by The Detroit News, provides exceptions for those with underlying conditions, and comes amid increasing angst in Metro Detroit hospital systems that are reaching capacity in the face of the nation's third largest outbreak of the coronavirus...

Wow. That's crazy. I hope Michigan has plenty of PPE.

Michigan governor considers extension of ‘stay home’ order as coronavirus cases continue to rise

More than 15,000 COVID-19 cases, 600 deaths reported in Michigan

DETROIT – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says the “stay-at-home” order, originally slated to end on April 14, will likely be extended as coronavirus cases continue to rise.

Gov. Whitmer said she’s expecting an additional order this week for the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order, but it’s unclear how long it would be extended for at this time.

Gov. Whitmer said the state “is not close to the apex yet,” and staying home is the best tool to keep people safe...

I sure hope so, BDE. My sons are in Oakland County and I am worried sick. (I am in mid-MI) We believe my younger son has already had COVID-19, as he was sick the last two weeks. I looked up a clinic for him, he went, but they wouldn't test him because he is young and healthy.

He has to return to work tomorrow.

DH and I have been checking here daily for frequent updates on COVID-19 in Oakland County.

Thanks @BetteDavisEyes. Stay safe!

DH and I are going to venture out to the market when he takes his lunch break today. Hopefully, we'll get everything on our list and won't have to go out again until next week. Salvaggio's will probably be busier towards Easter weekend, so there should be fewer people with whom we'll come in contact today.

the Salvaggio's lived across the street from us growing up. My dad used to go to Eastern Market with their dad LS before Nino opened the store. Just a fun fact

I must have missed your post yesterday. We got fresh fruits and veggies, swordfish, pork chops, spinach and feta London Broil, bagels/lox/cream cheese for Easter breakfast, bread, two bottles of wine, and a bunch of tulips. Nino's has been well-stocked and well-staffed during every visit in recent weeks. They are doing everything they can to keep customers happy during this difficult time. That's why we love our Nino's :)

A 'very different' time: Virus hits holiday worship for Metro Detroit faithful

In any other year, Easter would be a cherished day for Valaurian Carter and her fellow parishioners.

The Detroiter typically gathers with family and friends at their parish, St. Augustine and St. Monica on the city’s east side, for an inspirational sermon and uplifting hymns amid colorful flowers and packed pews. Still dressed in finery once outside, they assemble to snap a group photo to mark the congregation’s anniversary.

But when the holiday returns this weekend, none of that is happening.

Since the coronavirus pandemic has largely shuttered houses of worship across Metro Detroit, Carter and other parishioners must worship separately, at home, streaming services on their cellphones or computers.

“It’s not even comparable” to the past, the 32-year-old said. “It’s going to be another day of the week, it feels like.”...

Such a lovely selection of food. It made me so happy to hear a local business is taking such good care of you. Nino’s sounds wonderful. My parents live in Grosse Pointe Woods and go to the one near them. My mom just raves about her Nino’s as well.

Not much time online for me lately - very busy at work, but my dad is in a Beaumont hospital with the covid, which he most likely contracted while at the hospital being treated for something else last week. Just adding my statistic and sending love and best wishes to a state that really needs them (as if that helps, jeez...) Thanks for keeping the updates coming. Stay safe... you matter!

I am so sorry to hear your dad is sick. May he recover quickly. Most do!! And Beaumont is a great hospital. Top notch system, IMHO
