Michigan - Coronavirus COVID-19

Not much time online for me lately - very busy at work, but my dad is in a Beaumont hospital with the covid, which he most likely contracted while at the hospital being treated for something else last week. Just adding my statistic and sending love and best wishes to a state that really needs them (as if that helps, jeez...) Thanks for keeping the updates coming. Stay safe... you matter!

I hope you father gets well soon, best wishes.

It's been a long time since I've "seen" you here, my friend. Sorry about your dad. Thoughts and prayers that he'll recover.

Restaurants ask to sell single-serve drinks to go

Bar and restaurant owners and employees have launched a petition asking to be allowed, temporarily, to sell single-serve alcoholic drinks to go in Michigan. The request comes as the virus pandemic has many businesses shut down or suffering from slowed sales due to social distancing measures.

"Governor Gretchen Whitmer ... on behalf of restaurant and bar owners, operators, and employees, we are urging the State of Michigan to enact a temporary executive order to allow for the sale of safely packaged single-serving cocktails and/or beer, wine, and spirits from licensed establishments during the covid-19 pandemic," the group asks in the Change.org online petition...

Such a lovely selection of food. It made me so happy to hear a local business is taking such good care of you. Nino’s sounds wonderful. My parents live in Grosse Pointe Woods and go to the one near them. My mom just raves about her Nino’s as well.
Well , now I want a Ninos LOL
I have to venture out Thursday (that is when local store gets their shipment in) and I missed out last week.
I went on Wednesday and they were wiped out of everything, then I learned truck comes in on Thursday but I couldn't get out until Saturday and they were wiped out already of the paper products and can goods that I needed. YIKES
So, I will get there Thursday afternoon and hope for the best LOL

We have no definite plans for our annual trek to Mackinac Island, but I was curious about whether or not the popular tourist destination would be open as usual this summer. We typically like to visit in the fall when summer crowds have dissipated, so maybe we'll be able to go in late September/early October.

We have a camper and usually do a fair amount of spring and summer camping. State campgrounds are closed until May 15. I am going to cancel the Memorial Day Week trip we usually take either way. I am not sure if we will camp in June. I suspect July. We camp at crowded state parks with a tight group of friends and family. I am sure personally I will not be up for that in June. Never know but right now that is how I feel. I am going to plan a nice long fall trip. Something to look forward to!

Hundreds of thousands of Michigan students lack internet or computer

At a time when the state's K-12 students are displaced from school buildings during the COVID-19 pandemic, at least 300,000 lack internet access or a computer at home, according to a partial survey by Michigan school officials.

The Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators surveyed the state's 56 intermediate school districts in early April and found the unconnected students tended to be concentrated in rural or low-income areas.

According to partial survey results that came back Friday representing 969,554 of the state's 1.5 million students, 30.7%, or 295,499 students, lack sufficient internet access, and 31.2%, or 302,160 students, lack access to a device...
