What will holidays look like with COVID? Michigan offers guidance on travel, gatherings

‘Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others’

Coronavirus cases are rising in Michigan and around the country -- and many are asking -- what will the holidays look like?

If you’re looking for some guidance, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued a guide on holiday travel and gatherings.

“Celebrating the holiday season with family and friends is one of our most cherished traditions,” said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy for health. “Even though the way we celebrate may have to be different, the guidance issued today shows there are still many ways to spend quality time with family and friends safely during this festive season.”...

It just makes sense to avoid gatherings, large and small- the holidays will sure be different this year and it is sad.

Best to avoid any medical facility where there might be patients with coronavirus.

True but here's the thing: most hospitals have some Covid patients. In fact I was told that Covid patients are mixed in with regular patients in the Henry Ford System and this is not the only system in which this occurs. I was shocked to learn this and sent a message to the administration at Henry Ford expressing my shock at learning this. For all I know there could have been a Covid patient in the room my husband was in. I would hope they have designated rooms at least, but who knows. I think that is dangerous and risky practice.

Michigan GOP lawmakers propose new COVID-19 response plan

Proposal aims to give control to county officials

LANSING, Mich. – With Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19 emergency orders struck down by the Michigan Supreme Court, GOP lawmakers are stepping in and offering their own potential response plan...

The new proposal aims to give county officials control over how they want to handle procedures, instead of establishing procedures based on identified regions...

Depending on what county a person lives in, the response plan could vary considerably. I hope Oakland County has a good response plan.

Michigan now at risk for ‘active or imminent' COVID outbreak, data shows

Michigan sees largest COVID-19 case reported since start of pandemic

A research group is now labelling Michigan at “active or imminent” risk for a coronavirus outbreak as COVID-19 cases begin to rise rapidly in the state.

The group of technologists, epidemiologists, health experts and public policy leaders at Covid Act Now are identifying each state’s risk level for the spread of COVID-19 -- which are worsening in most parts of the U.S.

On Thursday, Michigan’s risk level for a coronavirus outbreak increased from “high risk” to “active or imminent” risk. The state’s new risk level is largely due to an increased infection rate and rapid increase of daily new COVID-19 cases, according to the data...

Restaurant owners weigh in on Michigan’s new COVID-19 emergency order

Restaurants must now limit customers to 6 per table, collect names and phone numbers

DETROIT – On Thursday, Michigan health officials issued a new COVID-19 emergency order that included stricter regulations on restaurants and gatherings.

Under the new order, no more than 50 people can gather indoors unless there is fixed seating. Facilities with fixed seating -- such as sports arenas -- are not affected by the new order.

Also, restaurants, bars and other indoor non-residential locations cannot allow more than six people at a table. Anyone who enters restaurants and bars must give their name and phone number so officials can reach them if necessary for contact tracing...

DH and I have gone out to dinner 4 times since restaurants reopened in Michigan and plan to enjoy dinner out tomorrow to avoid Trick-or-Treat. We've been very selective in choosing restaurants that have very strict protocols for patrons and staff, but we haven't been asked to provide contact information. Seems like an intrusion, but I suppose it's necessary during the pandemic.

Here’s how the new COVID-19 emergency order affects Michigan gatherings

Indoor gatherings without fixed seating now limited to 50 people

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan health officials issued a new COVID-19 emergency order Thursday (Oct. 29) that includes stricter regulations for indoor gatherings...

The new MDHHS order decreases the number of people who can gather indoors from 500 to 50, unless there is fixed seating at the facility.

Officials said large indoor gatherings have been identified as one of the main reasons for Michigan’s rising COVID-19 numbers...

When my husband was at Henry Ford in West Bloomfield I asked the nurses if there were a lot (or not a lot) of Covid patients). she told me they had just a few (though there is not a dedicated Covid Unit)--- I expect that to change very soon.

Looks like health officials are addressing the uptick in cases and that is good to know. After Governor Whitmer's power was stripped, it is good to know that we live in a state that is protecting its citizens ( unlike Florida and Gov. DeSantis)-- One thing for sure, people who were calling Gov Whitmer "Hitler" can now direct their hate to the Department of Public Health.

When I went to the ER at Troy Beaumont on June 9, nurse told me that they were completely full - many COVID patients.

Those people are probably the folks who trust the WH proclamation that the pandemic has ended ;)

I am kinda surprised- I knew there were more cases in June, but i had no idea there would be that many hospitalized at Beaumont Troy: well the cases are beginning to surge now in Michigan and all over the country: I sure don't want to see what happened in the early days of the Pandemic! hospitals filled to capacity with Covid patients, so patients with other serious illnesses couldn't even get treatment. What a dreadful thought

At the time of my visit to the ER, there were no elective procedures or surgeries - only emergency admissions for life-threatening conditions. There were no outpatient procedures or surgeries, no non-emergency diagnostics (X-rays, CTs or MRIs, etc.). Surgical personnel were needed for the many COVID patients who had been admitted. ER was fully engaged. Temperature and pulse-ox were checked outdoors at the main ER entrance. Anyone who presented with possible COVID symptoms was directed to a separate entrance/treatment area from other ER patients. They were greeted by a nurse in full PPE. While I was going through admissions process, I didn't see anyone come in who might have had COVID.

West Bloomfield schools going fully remote after Oakland County deemed high risk for in-person learning

Health Division changes Oakland County risk level to highest category

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – The West Bloomfield School District is going fully remove for all students after health officials moved Oakland County to the highest risk level for spreading COVID-19 through in-person instruction.

Bloomfield Hills High School to go fully remote due to number of teachers in quarantine

Building open Tuesday only as precinct for election

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Bloomfield Hills High School is transitioning to a fully remote schedule because of the number of substitute teachers quarantining.

Officials with the Bloomfield Hills school district said several teachers have had to quarantine “out of an abundance of caution.” As a result, the high school will halt in-person classes for the time being...

There appear to be increasing COVID outbreaks in Oakland County where I live. This does not bode well for the coming weeks. DH's employer has not required masks in the offices until today when a mask mandate was implemented. Masks must be worn when moving about the office, and it was suggested that some employees might be asked to work from home like they did early in the pandemic. DH worked at home from mid-March through early July and would be likely to work remotely until he retires next month.

RV used for COVID-19 testing stolen in Rochester Hills

Drive-thru site tests 150 people a day

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – An RV used as part of a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site has been stolen in Rochester Hills.

“I’m not sure why someone would do such a horrible thing,” said Dr. Michael Margolis said, who has been in the hospital treating COVID-19 patients since the pandemic began.

The RV was set up outside of the Rochester Medical Group building in a well lit parking lot on South Boulevard between John R and Rochester roads. The theives slowly backed up a Ford F-150 early Monday morning and stole the testing facility...

Unfrickinbelievable! This is a few miles from our home and where DH had his COVID test before returning to work in July. WTH is wrong with people?:rolleyes::confused:
